Which anti-virus software ???

Hi!

I recently got Norton Antivirus 2002 and tried it on real virus-infected computer. First, it found some but did not manage to repair the files, just put on quarantine, and this in fact happened several times for me with several viruses.
Then I downloaded the demo version of the Kaspersky lab AVP anti-virus (some russian company makes this), since I read in a magazine that this AVP is supposed to be the "smartest" anti-virus program out there. Indeed, it found twice as many viruses on one of the computers as Norton did, but the demo-version does not offer the repair of files, just delete, so I do not know.

What is Your suggestion abou what to use and what is better???

It depends on the virus, some viri overwrite and corrupt the file, no 'repair' is possible. Without you posting more information (what virus, what types of files, etc), I really can't say if this was a problem or not (sounds like it's not).

Twice? I don't believe that statement. Can you post the virus info about what they found that NAV didnt?

Well, yes, I had 2 viruses, each had infected like several files.
The one that NAV found was Backdoor.Litmus.Gen virus and thats it.

Kaspersky found this one and another one: Backdoor.BO2K.10

So, it was twice as many, since NAV did not find this virus at all.

Really down to personal choice IMHO,I prefer to use AVG because it`s free,the important thing with anti-virus programs is to keep your anti-virus DAT files up to date and use common sense with files you download or open.

I use panda... seems to work fairly well, and integrates a lot nicer and more minimally than norton was. I don't think I've found any viruses yet, but even before I hardly ever got one.

i use the free AVG too. I haven't tried to infect my system.. but it's found klez and one other one i don't remember. Fastmail.fm uses that russian software too.

I'm a big NAV fan. I run Corporate 7.6 at work and so far so good. Symantec's website offers a wealth of good information and fixes, as well.
