AntiVir (www.avira.com)- Its really been a great program with low overhead. I like it so much I tried to pay for it, but they did not have the United States as a listed country in the Billing window and don't seem to support sales to the U.S. However its still a great program.

I had Norton Anti-virus 2006 for like a day or two and got rid of it even though i didnt think it was that bad. Maybe slowed the computer a little but thats about it. Decided to give BitDefender 9 a shot. Have no issues with it, does whats its meant to, updates itself, has constant file scaning, also has a firewall but i dont use it because im using the Windows XP firewall SP2. The only thing is when you do a full system scan it takes a while. Also BitDefender was ranked no.1 AV on some site, cant remember where though. Oh plus its way cheaper than Norton AV 2006!!!

I will uninstall it because I find it simply ridiculous that a simple antivirus will permanantly use up system resources like that.

Does anybody know of any good antivirus programs that do not devour system resources?

Just get kaspersky. Don't question it, just get it..

You'd be better off with a trial version of kaspersky, norton has horrible detection rates..

I use NAV 2006 on my desktop (no major issues) and AntiVir on my laptop.
