WHICH BBQ GRILL?

just renoved my backyard and i want to get a new BBQ Grill.

i'm looking for a large-ish gas grill. what do you use and what would you recommend?

it is for a family of 5 but we will be occasionally be throwing parties of up to 20 people.

when it comes to BBQ's brands are bullshit. They are all the same. IMO.

Dukane, weber, vermont casting etc. Just look for features and quality construction - HEAVY cast iron crates, good burners (they should not feel cheap or flimsy), solid lid.

BBQ is a type of meat and food preparation; it is not a device to cook upon. It does not refer to hamburgers, hotdogs, etc, etc...........

Weber is a good brand of grill, but they are not cheap, their grills range from $400 to $800 buck, but they do last a lifetime, and it's american made too.

What's the scoop on cast iron vs. stainless steel grates? Any cast iron grate or device I've ever used eventually corroded away, and stuff tends to stick to it quite a bit. My Dad has a Charbroil professional grill with the stainless grates. Those things are nice. they clean easy and after 5 years they still look almost as good as new.

I have a Weber Genesis E-310. It is amazing how nice it is to cook on a well built and well engineered product.

I considered cheaper Chinese grills before buying the Weber. I realized that I can pay $150-200 every year or two to replace a rusted out grill or spend $650 on a quality grill that will last me (and is warrantied for) 10-20 years.

It all really depends on how much you want to spend.

the weber grill i can afford ~$300 cheapo only has 2 burners, would u recommend that one over one that has 4 burners @ the same price? in the end do i just get what i pay for?

cast iron is better to cook on since it holds heat very, very well. this will give you a better sear. the downside is that it is prone to rust (which can just be brushed off and the grates re-seasoned).

stainless steel is OK, but doesn't hold heat nearly as well as cast iron, so you won't get as good of a sear.

weber and other manufacturers have fixed this by offering porcelain coated cast iron grates. most of effectiveness of cast iron without the rust.

3 burners is perfect. it allows for direct (all 3 on) and indirect cooking(front and back on, middle off).

i'm guessing you're looking at the weber spirit E-310? that typically runs ~$500. the 2 burner E-210 runs ~$350. the spirit line is made in china, but it's still a better quality than most of it's competition.

I really wanted a Weber - but it was cost prohibitive for my mother. I like the 5 burners, and 4x casters. From the home Depot reviews - the wheels are a weak point - indeed, they gave us a set up apdatated wheels when she bought it. I should have it together tonight.

I like the lifetime burner warranty too. Doubt I will need it - they are stainless buners.

:thumbsup: have fun. i skipped over the free assembly on my grill and put it together myself. took me a couple hours, but now i know how the entire grill goes together should anything need replaced .. and it was a fun project for me and the dog.

this, with a little care, cast iron should last a while and its definitely worth it. i love the little smokey joe i have, but theres not a cast iron grate to be found (last i looked, anyway) that fits it :-/

BBQ is low and slow, grilling is hot and fast.

I'm planning on getting a BGE in a couple of weeks. My friends had one and loved it. They can do a lot more than a standard grill and come in different sizes. The large egg with a long table is what I want but you may need an XL.
