Which Blender?

I'm currently looking into these:

Oster-4093-008-Classic-Beehive-Blender

Osterizer-4126-Contemporary-Classic-Beehive

Braun-MX2050-PowerMax-525-Watt-58-Ounce

The Braun MX2050 is the best at blending (for the price) but is unreliable because it uses easy-to-break plastic gears (unlike the Oster which uses metal gears). What is the difference between the Oster Classic Beehive Blender and the Oster Contemporary Classic Beehive Blender?

This review highly recommends the Oster but I'm not sure which model (i.e. Contemporary Classic or just Classic).

I just bought a blender last week and read that same article. I was ready to get the Beehive, but ended up going with this:

Oster BPSt02-B

It got great reviews on amazon and works well so far.

Vita-Mix blenders are supposed to be really badass as well, but they're REALLY out of his price range.

Do you know the difference between this Professional and the normal Beehive one? BlendTec is good but way too much blender for my needs.

Besides the matte finish on the base

I believe the motor on the pro model is more powerful: "½ horsepower output ? the most powerful Oster® motor available" according to the manufacturer.

I'm not entirely sure where that comes from as 0.5 HP = 373 W and they sell a 500W version of the Beehive, but who am I to argue with their claim.

I was also thinking about that "discrepancy". There is also a debate here about the motor. Btw, does it have the "pulse" function?

I got a vita-mix blender and even tho it costs 400, its well worth it. blends everything you throw in it. If you like working out, blend some vanilla protein powder, ice and a banana and you have a great banana cream pie protein shake thats tastes great.

Wow, didn't even see the 3 year warranty for the pro model. Also, my guess on the wattage is that those claims may not be accurate or meaningful (like some cheapo computer power supplies) because I used to have a super crappy Hamilton Beach blender that was "400W"

After going through 3 blenders, I finally broke down and ordered a Blendtec yesterday. Big hit on the wallet but if it means I never have to buy another blender again, it will be worth it. I used my blender(s) every day and I really miss having a reliable one (not that I ever had one, lol).

Waring Blender at Amazon

If you want a professional blender that'll handle anything then get a Waring commercial, professional, or bar product.

My lab took over a lab that ground up plant bits to get chemical extracts for biological screening and they still had perfectly functional Waring blenders (from before the 90s). They last and are powerful (even if they only have two speeds).

Have you considered an immersion blender (hand blender)? Kitchenaid makes a good one that runs for about $50. They're much easier to clean and take up less space.
