If you know which brand is good, tell me what Number version of printer.

Canon S800/S900 series all the way. You get six-color photo printing with very fine dots, separate ink tanks for each (!) color, and no incredibly expensive piezo print heads. Zero-margin photo printing is there, some models (those with D suffix) come with an operating panel for direct printing off camera media, w/o computer attached.

Agree 100% with Peter,

I have the S800 and have been using this printing photos from my Minolta DiMage 7

Absoutely stunning, if you have the ability to do so, please check out the prices on inks and that in itself will lead you towards the Cannon line of printers.

I do not enjoy messing with printers, I expect them to work 100%... all of the time no exceptions. This S800 has not let me down yet!

Yup, definitely Canon or Epson for both great quality photo printing and lower cost per page. PC Magazine's annual Printer issue should be out soon (if not already) - look for it.

Ditto... I have had my Canon 8500 with the six tanks for over a year now and it is the best printer I have ever had for photos.

From what I've read, it may be wise to buy whichever brand of paper as the brand of your printer, i.e. if you have an Epson printer, get Epson paper that was meant for your specific printer model. Different paper have different properties, and the ink used in different inkjet printers are all different, so the manufacturer would best know how to optimize print quality with their own printer model and specifications.

If your digital camera is DPOF (direct print order format) go with either Canon or Epson.

If your digital camera is also Print Image Matching compatible go with a EPSON.

I've had nothing but problems with my Epson printers. Every time I want to print I need to use up half a cartidge cleaning the print head or I get banding problems. I know I'll never buy another Epson again.

I like Epson. I agree that the Espon printer cartridges are always clogging, etc. However, I have compared the output from the S800 to my Epson 780. The Epson was far superior in my tests. The Canon still looks like it was printed on a printer. The Epson produces photographs!

I have an old epson stylus color 500 and that thing sucked for the $300 price tag circa 1996. It appears they have improved quite abit.

What model? You printing banners?

My 880 is good on ink, as was my 860. Even if it was a hog I can buy replacement ink at $5 for color all day.

I don't know what Zoinks is using but I've got a Stylus Photo 820 and it does exactly what Zoinks printer does. What a pain in the ass! It does print great looking photos though.

Have you tried a DYE SUB printer? I think are made specifically for photo printing purposes. Olympus and sony come to mind.

I have an Epson Photo 890, I use Epson cartridges and Epson Paper......

I can scan a photo (Using Canon 630u) and print results on photo paper that are a direct copy of the original!

This isn't my first Epson Printer and I work within an environment that uses mainly Epson Printers all day long!

Whatever your job, from letter, own CD covers and photo reproduction or printing straight from digital camera I recommend Epson any day of the week.....

I have also used Brother, HP, Panasonic, etc, etc, but my advice is the same......

Also build PC's for others and always recommend Epson Printers, NEVER have I ever had a complaint......

Good luck, and happy shopping......

I would read the forums over at http://www.dpreview.com. They can give you all kinds of input on photo printers. I believe the BEST photo printer currently is the Epson 2200, which sells for about $700. It has the archieval "ink" that resists fading for 80 years.

Epson by far but the print head clog is a pain in the ass. An epson rep actually told us that if you print a picture off an epson printer, and dip it into water, it wont run or anything!

Also epson's colors seem to be brighter and more vibrant.

I have never tried dipping in water, but yes I can print on an Epson and wet it with a sponge or wet towel and it doesn't smear the ink.
