Just picked up the camera and wanted to know from forum members which brand i should get. I'm looking at a 128 or 256mb card. My brother picked up some MR. Flash a while back and complained that the camera took a lot longer to save the picture when he took it. This was with his s110.

So I want a brand that is fast and won't cost me an arm and leg.

And size wise I would prolly want something that could hold 50 pics at 1024x768 super fine quality. So is that 128 or 256mb

thanks a ton guys

As its only a 2 megapixel camera, read/write performance isnt the biggest deal on the CF card. I would go with the best deal. Sandisk is the primary manufacturer of the cards, and they always tend to be good quality. Mr. Flash ought to be fine, though. If it was a higher resolution camera, I would reccomend getting the fastest card you could. Here is a good review of CF card performance from various brands.

I've got a Mr. Flash 128MB card for my S100. It is pretty sluggish when it saves images, especially when it starts to fill up. My SanDisk 32MB card is much faster, but I'm not sure if that is due to its smaller size or because it actually is faster.

Well, I don't exactly know if Sandisk is faster, in fact I have heard some reports that they are slower than average. All I can say is that the 128MB Mr. Flash is definitely slower than my 32MB Sandisk. Check out CF Media Review for more details.

Also, you need to keep in mind that the speed of any card can vary from batch to batch, as they further tweak and optimize the memory controller. I.E. Sandisk's 64MB card was originally very slow compared to Lexar's card of the same capacity, but when the 128MB cards hit, the Sandisk card ended up being faster. My local Sandisk rep told me that it varies from batch to batch and model to model who has the faster card. Sandisks tend to be a little less agressive with their controllers as they do much of their business with Government OEM's and the reliability is a large factor. Lexar and Viking tend to be faster, but they have made modifications to the CF card, which is why Sandisk has sued them both in the past. I have seen a few compatability issues with these cards(more with lexar because we carry them at Best Buy) with certain models of digicam not accepting those cards. Even these aren't very common, though.

With the prices over at Crucial, I'm curious if anyone knows how Crucial CF cards stack up.

There was a noticeable boost in back-to-back picture speed on my S110 going from the generic 8MB card it came with to an 8x Lexar CF card. And a co-worker said he noticed a substantial slow-down in his Canon G2 (I think that's the model) camera going from a 64MB 8x Lexar card to a 256MB Mr.Flash CF card.
