Which burner - Plextor or HP?

I'm looking at an HP 9300 series (32x10x4) and a Plextor (32x12x10). Without looking at the speeds, which one is a better choice? I'm looking for quality. I've been using HP 7200 and 9200 at work and haven't ran into any problem.

How are Plextor burners?

I second that, but HP are good value for the money but have some quality control issues if you get a bad one. The Plextors are all pretty much bulletproof so you hardly see one go bad and there rma rate is very small so Plextor all the way.

Go plexy cause most stuff like Nero and clone CD programs always seem to run best with there firmware.

Thank you all.

I'm ordering a Plextor. One more question: onvia.com is not listed as one of pointclick's reimbursement sites. Will Pointclick still honor the 10% reimbursement request for purchases made through onvia?

Heh, this is a big debate. You'll get your money, as it seems, most people have been if they just select Onvia from the drop-down reimbursement list, but you'll get a guilt trip from all the people who think that if you "abuse" it like that they'll remove OnVia.

Konichiwa,

I'm not abusing anything. If I can't find the link onvia from PC, and inquire about the reimbursement process, I don't see that as "abusing" the situation.

I'm a first time customer to PC and onvia and I merely asked what any firsttime buyers would have sought out.

If you were directing your remarks to the true abusers, you should have stated so.

Whoa whoa whoa. I didn't say you were abusing anything. You read my post wrong:

"you'll get a guilt trip from all the people who think that if you "abuse" it like that they'll remove OnVia. "

With a smiley face at the end and all. The way you get reimbursement from PC is you make a request and select the vendor from the drop-down list. This is exactly what the instructions on the reimbursment site say to do, and it's exactly what I do. However, some people say that you have to go through the link to the vendor and then do the reimbursement request. However, I didn't see those instructions on the two sites with directions on how to get reimbursed, so I'm doing it my way.

Am I not looking at what I don't want to see? Sure. But if Pointclick has Onvia on the drop-down list, then I can get reimbursed. Some thing this is abusing it because OnVia is only on the "click-thru" list early in the morning.

Do what you want, it's up to you.

This is OT, but the thread made me think of it. Do some places offer coupons, or discounts, or something? I ask about it on this board once, but then apparently, we can't or are not supposed to talk about it here...what is the deal?

Konichiwa,

I must admit that I read your post wrong. Even missed the smiley face. My apologies. I was in a hurry to get the ordering process over and done with. For the past two weeks, I've been shopping online for parts. I'm almost done now. Last night I put together my new computer. By the time I was done installing Windows 2000 Server, it was 3:30AM. Currently, I'm dog tired here at work. Being in this situation, I overlooked your entire message.

I did order My Plextor 32x/12x/10x. I even ordered 100 12x/80min CD-Rs.

Thanks for your info.

Glen,

I goto techbargains dot com for all my online coupons. I just discovered this a few days ago. If I would have known about this site, I could have saved lots of money using coupons. For my shopping, I used ibuyer.net. My biggest scoring within the last two days is: VooDoo3 3000 AGP - net price $41.00 and Plextor burner - net price $215.00.

Plextor make excellent products but their customer service is among the worst I've ever experienced. To make a long story short... A couple hours spent on hold only to get disconnected or never answered. Ignored Email requesting RMA status. The RMA status mailbox is frequently too full to leave a message. Over 6 weeks turnaround time when I was told it would be 2. Oh, and cost $100 plus return shipping for a burner that was only 18 months old.

Plextor: Great drives as long as they don't break.

I dont know much about the quailty and prices on the Plextor burners. But Im like you we use the HP 7200 at work and Im very happy with it and we burn ALOT of CD'S on it. I know myself have burned over 100 CDS on it and no coaster yet, or I might just be lucky

I guess it depends on the price differances.

My brother likes the Plextor. He hasn't had any problems with it.

I purchased two HP 9100i IDE for dual CD recording and have not had any problems. The HP burns with lots of different types of media. I've tested it on TDK, Verbatim, CompUSA brand, Memorex, Kingston, CMC, and HP. The burners worked perfect on light colored to dark colored surfaces. They burners come with loads of great software, label accessories.

I like it...
