Okay, so I'm going to be building a new system soon. I am definitely going Core 2 Duo, partly because I can get really good deals on the CPU; I know someone who works for Intel.
I definitely want to overclock quite a bit; the C2D platform seems to love it. So, how much better are the overclocks with the 6400 and 6600 as opposed to the 6300? For me, the difference between the the 6300 and 6600 is only $30, so is it worth it, or will it not matter once I overclock?
Also, I'm trying to pick the right cooler. I'm willing to sacrifice some performance gains for a quiet system. It doesn't necessarily have to be inaudible, but I would like as quiet as possible while maintaining good cooling performance. I also don't really want to spend $60 on the cooler. I was thinking of the Scythe Mine or the Zalman 7700AlCu which are both in the $30-35 range on Newegg. I may go as high as $40 if there is a big improvement in noise or cooling performance to be had, but that's the most I'd like to spend.
What do you guys think? Any help is appreciated!
