Space wise......Altima has the most right now.....i believe. Even the 2.5 engine is pretty strong.......value wise...I'd take the camry or maxima......because those have proven themselves for years now...as reliable and good cars. Audi has horrible resale value.....although its a great car. I would not consider the Volvo unless you move up to the S60.

Toyota Camry - good, reliable car, top seller, rear seats feel a bit stiff to me, but I got a large arse
Nissan Maxima - Not bad, just make sure to get alloys, wheel covers are terrible on maximas
Honda Accord - Not a bad choice too, decent performance, reliable
Passat , Jetta - cant say, never driven one, though, Jetta feels like a girl's car
anything that costs more than $28k- I dont want kids spilling their happy meal in this $28k+ car... get something semi-disposable

And since you dont seem to want an American made car or korean....jokes on you, alot of these cars arent even built in their mother country...

in our family everybody is over 19, so no happy meals ... though won't spent 28k anyway

I don't like american cars, b/c :
fords - don't like designs
chevy - don't think very reliable and cheap looking car

Don't like these cars, b/c we (and most ppl around us) think that they are very unreliable and simple suck and cheap, and we don't base our opinion on public opinion of american ppl : saturn/hyindai/kia

I recommend the Subaru Outback. It's AWD, has good safety ratings, and more than sufficient space. The handling is excellent and most of all: Paul Hogan drives one! Who is going to laugh at you for driving a car that Crocodile Dundee drives?

I love the new Maximas. The interior is AWESOME unlike the altima, etc. It just feels luxurious!

I'd say it's a 3 way tie:

VW Passat - overall best but pricey, get this if you can afford it.

Toyota Camry and Honda Accord - overall best value, excellent reliability, good fuel economy

If money is not an option, the Volvo is probably the best built car on the list. I'd take one if I had the cash, you can't kill those things. However I wouldn't trade in my Toyota for the world, but it's not exactly a family car, you'd have to be Ally McBeal to fit in the back seat. (and there ain't no WAY she's getting in there )

My dad just bought a Camry LE, it is very fuel efficient. Its also very cheap if you look around.

hergehen, what is the budget for a new car?

like $20K but for a good car it could expand a little

With a little research you could get a 2002 Honda Accord SE for $17,244 or 2003 Toyota Camry LE for $17,797 both of these are automatics plus local tax, destination fee and license/title.

I recently bought my 2002 Honda Accord SE for $2,000 below factory-to-dealer invoice.

If you can afford slightly more than $20k I'd go with a VW Passat, otherwise the Accord or Camry are great cars.

i was going to say acura tl but then i did a search. i don't think it's that much more expensive... i mean compared to the volvo? or camry? remember damn near EVERYTHING comes standard in TL... unless you were going to get a barebones car, i think the TL is a good choice.

I agree but I highly doubt you can get a new Acura TL for $20k, maybe $28k (non Type S with no DVD nav). Bang for your buck, nothing can touch the TL in it's class.

Passat wagon - TONS of passenger space, plus a nice back end to take the family dog along with you too

I own a '00 Passat V6 wagon, and it is the best car I've ever owned(thus far). About the ONLY complaint I have is the chintzy cup holders, but since I rarely drink and drive, it's not a huge concern.

A station wagon is the most versatile vehicle you can buy if you don't want a Minivan or SUV. They are also nice for not drawing attention from the cops

s40 = Volvo, right?

I think you can get a 2002 Volvo s40 turbo for around $24k through CostCo.

The 2003 Toyota Camry LE for almost $18k is a loss leader, 3 local dealerships have had these on sale for the past few months.

If reliability, resale value, and relatively inexpensive parts also are of your consideration, then I would say Toyota Camry.
