Civic Hybrid - assuming you can find one since they're in great demand

Or

The Jetta TDI (although, I'd rather get the new VW Golf V TDI coming out this month)

I've never driven the Civic hybrid, but I'm sure its decent... I have however driven the Toyota Prius & its actually pretty nice, quick off the line & slow but acceptable on the highway.

Prius... hatch + biggest tax deduction. I've seen the Civic hybrid and while it looks nice you can't even fold down the rear seats since the hybrid battery is there. I'd say if you want a roomy interior go with the Prius. If that's not important to you go with the Civic.

The tax credits and excellant mileage are why I'm considering a hybrid. But, like the idea of a diesel for longevity.

But you might also want to wait for the Fit, Yaris, and Versa to be released. I've seen the Yaris in Canada and they're nice little econo cars.

I was wondering when the new Golf would be coming out. I was at a VW dealer a few months ago, and noticed the Golf diesel (old style) was a much better deal than the Jetta. Not sure how the new Golf will be priced.

I picked Honda, but only because my family owns 3 of them, one a Civic and because I've actually driven a Civic Hybrid for a few minutes.

Either the Jetta or the Civic hybrid coupe (if the have such a thing). The new civic coupe looks great.

Well, I just got back from Honda dealer. They only had 1 Civic hybrid on the lot, and it was sold already. I had to test drive a regular Civic. I was impressed. Handles great w/ very responsive steering. So, to make a long story short, I ordered one w/ navigation system. Hopefully, I'll get it in 3 weeks. I had never been to a Honda dealer before, but was very satisfied w/ how things went. I had to pay MSRP, but they gave me more for my trade than I thought I'd get.

The Jetta is the nicest of the cars, but sadly probably most prone to having probs.

I am not a huge fan of any of the others though.. I'd lean more towards the Honda since most Toyotas are so ugly, but mechanically I am sure they are both great.

LOL, I was going to suggest a standard Civic

I don't like hybrids but out of the choices the Civic is best. I'd go for a normal one though.

I thought about getting a regular civic, but the tax credit the hybrid will provide helps to make up the price difference.

What about when the battery pack needs to be replaced?

I know in Cali they carry an 8 year warranty but that's only because of a state mandate. Who knows when they'll actually need replacement.

It has an 8 year/80k warranty. I read where they had tested the battery up to 180k w/out the battery having any problems.

Do those cars come with a "Ralph Nader For President" sticker? Wouldn't surprise me.

No,unfortunately, not. I hear Honda was considering this as standard equipment, but felt it would increase demand beyond their production capabilities
