Which card to use?

Just picked up an 8MB TNT2 Vanta card from bummer over in the FS/FT Forum. My question is: Would it be worthwhile to use this card to replace a 16MB TNT1 card? Here are the specs for the TNT2 and here are the specs for the TNT1.

Seems to me that a 16MB card would beat out an 8MB card but I'm not so sure. The system the card would be put into has a Celeron 366 running at 550MHz and 128MB of PC100 RAM. Also, only games like The Sims and Sim City 3000 are played on this machine. Hey, it's my girlfriend's computer!

Thanks for your input.

actually i think the TNT1 actually MIGHt be faster than the Vanta

as far as i know the TNT1 runs at 90Mhz core/100Mhz ram(am i correct? my memory starting to fade)

the Vanta runs at 100Mhz core / 125MHz ram

however the Vanta has a 64Bit path to the memory bus while the TNT1 has 128bit path

i would stick to a tnt1 for this reason

but again, this could be all theoritical BS so think u might wana try the both of them (as no new drivers are actually needed, just swap the card and see what u feel)

Thanks for the insight, xtreme2k. I suspected the 64 vs 128-bit memory bus would swing the vote in favor of the TNT1.

Anyone else want to offer an opinion?

If the vantra has 64 bit bus and less memory it has to be clocked twice as fast to be at the same speed stick with the tnt1

Do you read the thing about making a Vanta into something better? Lol I can't remember what you do, but it is fairly simple and is like the Geforce > Quadro hack and I guess it improves the speed pretty good. Someone here knows or post about it in General Hardware and someone will have the link to it.

Here's one link I found. Guess I'll have to read the instructions a few more times before I understand how to perform the "surgery".

That's not the right link. Thats for a GF/2 > Quadro. There is one for the Vanta > something better. I thought it was in one of bummer's threads before in FS/FT.
