New question.

Should I buy the Powercolor X1950 Pro 512MB for $270 or get a X1900XTX for $270? This might sound like an easy decision, but I am new to ATI.

This is my previous question.

Newegg has these two cards.

Powercolor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...4131030&ATT=14-131-030&CMP=OTC-17exta6

Diamond: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...4103022&ATT=14-103-022&CMP=OTC-17exta6

The Diamond has a mail-in rebate and doesn't take up two slots. It looks like they should perform about the same, but which manufacturer is more reliable?

I do not plan on overclocking because this card will go in an HTPC setup. So the extra space the Diamond gives me is an added bonus.

PowerColor's cooler is way better. It is an aftermarket cooler with superb performance and minimal noise.

I think the powercolor has a two year warranty. It also has slightly higher clocks.

1900xtx is a lot lot better, there is no comparison. PERIOD

A 256MB X1900XT in most titles closes to a 512MB 1900xt. A 512mb 1900xt in most titles closes to a 512mb 1900xtx.

A 256mb 1950Pro closes to a 7900GT and beats a 7900GS, a 512MB should be a little better.

Check out xbitlabs.com/articles/video, top article, there is absolutely no comparison!

Actually in some benchmarks, the X1950PRO beats the 7900GT. And the additional 256MB provides very little benefits on this card, cause in current games at higher resolutions will tends to be more GPU bound than RAM bound. An X1950PRO will be behind of the X1900XT, but not too far. But if both costs the same, I would rather choose the X1900XT.

Thanks everyone. I found an MSI X1900XTX Crossfire edition for $240, so I obviously picked that up real fast!!

Well my 1900XTX came in today. Most people on this forum would not have taken the chance but I bought an open box one from Newegg.

Price was $240 for the MSI 1900 Crossfire Edition. Card came in the retail box and actually included all the parts (crossfire cable, driver CD, King Kong game, PCI-E power adapter, everything). Basically it was just returned and Newegg sold it for a killer price.

I have ran BF2142 on it for 3 hours and not a hiccup in sight. It runs at 1400x1050 on my 42" Westinghouse with all settings maxxed out. Average FPS is around 70 which is very nice. I would be pushing it at 1920x1080 if BF2142 would let me choose that under the video settings. Alas, 1400x1050 is the highest it will allow me to go at the moment. I would be really happy if I could even get to 1680x1050. I have neverwinter nights 2 installed and I am currently trying it out at 1920x1080 on my 42" Westinghouse. It seems to be running an average of 25 FPS with all settings maxxed at 1920x1080. Just walking around in the game it looks great, but I might bump the resolution down a notch to get the FPS up to around 50 or so. If all else fails I will just grab a 1950Pro on sale somewhere to couple the the 1900xtx

3DMark06 clocks in around 4950 at stock settings and oddly enough the stock cooler doesn't get really all that loud in my opinion.

When the cooler is running at full speed it is really loud but I think it only kicks in at full speed if the temps are around 100C!!! Highest temp so far after 3 hours of BF2142 is I think 65C. I may just stick with the stock cooler since it blows the hot air out the rear of the case. I don't want to put the Accelero on there because it blows the hot air into the case and that would be bad for my small HTPC case.

So I took a gamble and got lucky. Hopefully the card will last me a good two years until I decide to upgrade to a DX10 card.

Yeah, probably is because since he owns it, he wants to praise it to everyone like it is the best of the best. He sounded like in the other forums on which he always has issues in games because they run very slow, even though that card is powerful, don't pretend to run games like Oblivion with everything on max at 1920x1080 with 6xFSAA LMAO Just funny isn't he?
