Yeah I can imagine that. In the UK they are completely unnessecary except I suppose if you're a tree surgeon or something. If you own one in the UK it's a US import and it won't fit down a lot of streets.

White hat trucks are popular here as well. Neighbour of mine has an Escalade EXT. Luxury pickups look absolutely ridiculous. Like someone forgot to put the back on your giant SUV. I miss the era of the affordable yellow hat pickup truck. Up until recently you could get a brand new Ford Ranger for $13k. A little more if you wanted AC, auto, and the bigger cab. Handy as hell, especially on trips to Ikea. I wish they still made them so I could hick it up. They were also virtually indestructible. Now all trucks start at $25k minimum.

Or its a vehicle style that owes almost its entire existence to the truck avoidance of the gas guzzler tax. Otherwise, we'd likely have as many station wagons as the rest of the world, and far fewer SUVs. For almost all the owners, a station wagon is a far better car choice.

Altima is a sportier more aggressive styling than the Camry/Accord in that budget range, so naturally the douchbags gravitate towards it.
