OK fellas, I just bought a
Cendyne 32x12x48 Brand new (rebadged Aopen) ......and got a
Yamaha 24x10x40 in a trade but I think it's either new or close to it.
Which one should I keep?
What would you do?

Well at first glance that's what I thought too. But check out the Yamahas features. 8 meg buffer, Mt. Raineer support, etc.
Plus the brand reputation.
And looking at the stats, I'm not sure that 32 is that much faster than 24.
I'm leaning toward the Yamaha.

I agree, keep the yamaha, get your money back and use it on something else. Anything over 12X is really fast enough--what's the difference between 3.5 minutes and 5 minutes unless you're really mass producing cds? I always go for features when it comes to writers.

Have you checked them both for Clone CD and subchannel copy compatibility though?

Definately go for the Yamaha. The Yamaha is much more feature rich (excellent for burning audio CDs) and has a better brand name.

Considering the minimal actual difference in speed against the neat feature set of the Yamaha and its flawless audio handling in both grabbing and writing, I'd definitely keep the Yamaha.

Since we're on this subject, which would you keep , a 24x10x40x PLEXTOR or a 32x12x40x Cendyne(lite-on)? Thanks....

If the Cendyne was a Lite-On or Mitsumi (with 8MB buffer) I would keep the 32X. But you'll only add a few seconds of burn time if you keep the Yamaha. You'll probably be much more happier with the Yamaha in the long-run (better quality, more features like Gog said). Hope this will help.

Here is an issue that is worth considering: minimum burn speed. I have two LiteOn burners at work, a 24X and a 32X... both have minimum burn speeds of 8x. I found that burning music CDs, often I need to burn at a slower speed than 8x to get a CD without faults.

I have a LiteOn 16x burner at home and I've had to drop to as little as 2X to get a perfect music CD copy before... not always but sometimes.

Yamaha probably makes the best burners on the market; the Cendyne is no slouch, but I would stick with the quality of the Yamaha over the minimal speed increase the Cendyne would give you.

Here is my 2 cents....
What are your needs...cd backups, audio burns, data burns etc....that may affect your decsion...I would go the Liteon on path...excellent overall burners , fast...they upgrade firmware frequently

Excellent for reproducing protections....

I have used plex, HP, ricoh and liteon...I see no difference in the audio from any of the brands

I would get the 40x cdrw Cendyne burner from Officemax for $55 after rebate...the other nice feature is ..you can upgrade to 48x cdrw with P-CAV burning by flashing the firmware...or wait 2-3 mo and get the 48/24/48 cdrw from Liteon

I would sell both the cendyne 32x cdrw, and Yahama and buy the 40x burner...you will see a nice speed improvement on the 40 xwith P-CAV(again a firmware update) or O/C to 48x...they hardware chipset in the Liteon 40x and 48x are the same ....

BTW..the liteon will support Mt Rainier as well(at least the 40/48x do..the 32x does not)

Yamaha burners are cheap in my opinion, I bought one and replaced it with a Liteon and couldn't be happier.
The Yamaha was nothing but headaches. Maybe got a bad burnner but no more for me.
