Hi everyone !!

I am building a new rig in less than a month, but I can't decide which chipset is good for me...

Here are the details :
- E8400 Core 2 Duo
- 4Go DDR2 (because I think DDR3 is not worth it yet, am I right ?)
- one of the latest ATI HD48x0 but I don't need Crossfire so I don't need more than one PCI-express slot
- good overclocking capabilities (not excessive though)
- stable BIOS and electronics
- low power consumption
- budget is not an issue but performance is. However, if two different chipset have the same performance, I prefer the cheapest which meets my requirements.

Thanks in advance,
Mat.

I would definitely say, pending any horrid reviews, the P45 chipset will be excellent for your needs. Boards are just being released so we should have some good information on it within a week or two as to whether or not it's worth it.

- What is the performance difference between X48 and P45 ?
- Is P45 really more energy efficient than X48 (due to 65nm ??) ?
- Are there bugs in mobos based on chipsets that just came out ? If yes, are these bugs corrected by BIOS updates ?
- Is it true that Asus is the best brand ?

Thanks,
M.

- Performance shouldn't be too far off.
- Yes
- Too early too tell. there can be and they might be bios correctable. But like I said, its too early to tell.
- It is one of the best brands.

I agree. It is more expensive then DDR2 and shows no real improvement in system performance. The only thing it really has going for it is I believe I read it uses less power.
