Which combo?

Ok, newegg has a core 2 duo combo that looks interesting but i am worried about clock speed vs what i can get from amd. Which would you do?

Biostar Tforce 550
4600 65w

Obviously, the question is there as to which is better. However, I do know the first answer is a question and that is what am I going to use it for. Eventually some gaming. Nothing serious, but decent. Also the next question i have is which one will work best with 2 gigs of ddr 800?

I would buy $210 combo and overclock CPU.
Abit mobo should work better with DDr2-800 simply because it's newer. However, to use DDR2-800 speeds, you gonna need to o/c that CPU by a huge margin.

Buy the intel. The x2 would be a bit faster at stock speeds, but it won't overclock very well at all, but that e4300 at a conservative overclock, say 2.2-2.4 gHz would blow the x2 away

You should go for the Core 2. That CPU at 2.2GHZ would probably beat the X2. The low wattage X2s don't OC well AFAIK.

If you plan on going stock either would do, but as already stated the 4300 OCs very well and can even break 3k with good air.

what about a better amd cpu around the same price as the intel? Will the intel still outperform? I dont want to overclock if i can. Should I spend more on the cpu and less on the mobo? I want the most for my money without having to oc.

For overclocking a good mobo is usually important. If you're not going to overclock, go with the AMD combo.

I don't think that Core 2 board has overclocking options.

The Abit IL9 is a really bad board.
