I've had my 15" monitor since my very first IBM compatible computer, a P100 that I got for my 14th Bday.

I suspect my SC760A case will last for a while too.

The only component that I still use from my original computer of 5 years ago is the floppy drive.

I put the real money in the monitor, it seems to stay around the longest. Nokia 21" 445XPro

Right now my speakers are the oldest thing in my current rig. Altec Lansing 48's are still hard to beat..

I've had the covers for the stuff that came out before ISA slots back in the 286 4 mhz machine days. I might have some screws on my computer now that came from that computer.

IBM keyboard, manufactured in May 1989. Still better than anything else out there.

For me it's my 3 years old and reliable 4X12 Plextor. I don't know why but this seems to be the only equipment that I don't feel like upgrading because it's so reliable.

I haven't had computers long enough to say for sure......but I'd assume it's floppy, kb such.......monitors get a lot better with changing technology

The longest lasting component I think is either the modem or case...

I have went through so many upgrades where the modem and case have stayed exactly the same... in fact I have never upgraded my case. I bought a modem twice, for two computers, and never upgraded (well, bought a 33.6, upgraded to 56k and 33.6 went in another computer).

Monitors also last long... the 14" I have downstairs is the same 14" I had with my 486, still works. Mice and keyboards don't last as long.. I've replaced several mice and a two keyboards.

The only things that ARE upgraded frequently are motherboard/cpu/ram and not as often but still relatively frequent, the video card. Network card is something I buy once and dont upgrade for a while.

the only thing that will keep getting moved to the current top of the line system is the acs 48s, best computer speakers i've ever heard (haven't auditioned the klipsch ones, yet...) i suppose the 19" fd trinitron will stick around a while, but then again thats new. the oldest thing i have is a powerbook 180, from 1989. then again, i don't use that.

Altec Lansing ACS45 3-way speakers - I think these are about three yrs old. I haven't bothered upgrading these since I use my Sennheiser HD545 headphones a lot for gaming.

Iomega Zip Drive, internal ATAPI - two yrs old, don't use it much anymore since I got a CDRW but it's still useful

I replace my floppy drives whenever doing a major upgrade since I end up selling my old system to someone.

Sheesh, the next oldest component is the Philips 201P 21" monitor, and that's less than two yrs old. Everything else is almost new or less than a year. So THAT'S where my money is going! I was wondering....
