Which computer companies have you had bad experiences with?

When it comes to laptops, PCs, graphics cards or whatever else it is that comes to your mind.

Any companies which you swear against and would never consider buying from (unless of course they came up with a good product)?

You may include electronics companies as well (which manufacture cell phones, MP3 players etc.).

I had a bad experience with an ATI, too noisy, idk if they got better but right now I'd buy nvidia.
Also acer is bad quality plasticky stuff imho, an LCD monitor I had broke right after the warranty expired (2 years).

ATI - They've had shitty drivers since ever. You'd think they'd improve over time.

Western Digital - Every HD failure I've had has been a WD drive despite them being the minority of my purchases. They have an undeserved reputation for quality, and I wouldn't own one of their drives unless it was >50% cheaper than something from a good maker.

Crucial - I'm still pissed about the Ballistix EverFail ram

Sony - Overpriced and underperforming with user hostile policies. They've been coasting on their name for for over a decade.

Okay. So Seagate sucks, Maxtor sucks and so does Western Digital. What's left?

I never had a problem with Seagate or Maxtor, but I liked Samsung and Hitachi. I haven't bought a drive in a long time. I need to get some, and get my data backed up.

Dell, they're support serves to fuck with you. I called their tech support hotline at their 1800WWWDELL number. After a 40 minute hold, I was transferred to a technician who said he doesn't support Latitudes. He then transferred me. After another 40 minute hold, I was again transferred to a technician who said he doesn't support Latitudes. I explained what I went through, and he told me he'll try to provide support. He asked me what I needed help on, and after I told him, he transferred me back to the end of the queue again!
FUCK DELL

None. Which I guess is pretty lucky.

I've had a Asus GTX 670 die and a 5 year old hitachi laptop drive die also, but I'm not going to stay away from those brands because of that.

How many discrete makers are there now?

Buyout doesn't necessarily mean anything's changed. Sometimes it's just a change of who signs the paycheck, and they otherwise operate as they always have.

G. Skill. My last PC build was very unstable for the first month. Replaced the RAM with Corsair of the same specification and it has run perfectly for years.

Corsair and Patriot are my preferred ram brands. Never had a problem with either.

oretty sure hitachi is the only one that was bought that still operates by itself under seagate or WD

Funny, Corsair is the one computer brand I refuse to use. Bought one stick of RAM from them, it was bad and the RMA process took me months to get straight. If I had not kept good records and used delivery confirmation they would have happily screwed me, they lied enough times to try.

This with OCZ. Their RAM keeps failing and failing every 18-24 months. Their latest stunt was to replace their Ballistix sticks with 8GB vanilla sticks that wont allow you any overclock at all bringing down a 3.6GHz core2quad down to its stocks 2.4GHz speed.

Most of them are pretty crappy about rma's. It'd be shorter to name the one's that weren't crappy to deal with.

HP and Nvidia are my top two. Every HP computer I've had/worked on has been complete junk. Nvidia for their laptop graphics debacle a couple years ago.

I've only had to send back a couple items and Crucial and Dell did a good job with the RMA process.

Dell. Their customer service is terrible, and their consumer laptops are flimsy garbage.

There is nothing quite as annoying as being told that I need to update my BIOS before they would replace a noisy failing CPU fan or a bad battery... because a BIOS update is really going to fix that. Grr.

That said, their business grade stuff is actually pretty good. I'll keep buying it.
