how/why? I think the way they treat their employees is fantastic. So what if they charge a premium for their items?

The disaster they have brought to the entire AV industry over the last three decades trumps all.

Could you elaborate on that, please?

Proprietory formats. It's like they didn't learn from Beta. They try to muscle their way to maintain their crumbling superiority. Sure that's just normal business. But I believe it stifles development.

Every AV format there is always Sony and Everybody else.

Thank goodness that that are crumbling so much.

But I see that as screwing themselves, like they did with BetaMax. Even with Blu-Ray they aren't in a position to dictate what he market can do. Panasonic and others will see to that.

Naw, while their products did infact kill my grandfather, I'd say walmart is far more evil. Though them falsely advertising in the 50s about how cigarette smoking doesn't cause cancer and denying preliminary reports about it causing cancer depsite them doing their own testing was obviously wrong.

But if all they had done was package tobacco and distribute it to users with out much or no advertising, then I can't blame them. Sure you could say that they're profiting off of a product that causes death, but if they didn't create the product, some one else would, it's up to the consumer to make the decision not to smoke. It's when you advertise to the consumer that it's cool to smoke and that it will get you laid, and children should smoke as well etc. thats when it becomes a problem.

I say walmart is worse because they're creating a legal equivalent of sweatshops.

Anticompetitive practices.

They frequently open stores next door to competitors (even if they have another nearby) to drive that competitor out of business.

Also, there was a local coffee chain that was going to put a store in a mall that already had starbucks. Starbucks said that if the mall didn't give them the space then they'd pull their existing store out. Of course the mall caved and now there are two starbucks. Yay.

Pisses me off, because I can't go to starbucks for a house coffee being as it invariably tastes like burnt ass.

So in summary, starbucks is only slightly less evil than Monsanto.

Walmart....

I don't know about some of the others, but I think Walmart is the clear winner for the corporation that most people interact with most often.

Apologist? Hardly. I merely do not seek to supplant one group of people's rights for another group. Unlike most others, I am offended when the bull of another is gored.

This is called competition. How is it anti-competitive?

Obviously the mall wanted Starbucks, and not the other guys.

I swear, some of the crap you guys are complaining about is the silliest spoiled brat sh!t I've ever heard.

it's probably EA.

having to sit through 4 splash screens, most of which are advertising, that you can't skip, is annoying as hell.

Hasn't anyone figured out a way to hack that?

I know they did for BF1942.

The media groups are the most evil becuase they have their fingers into almost every content and outlet in the US (and the world), and wield and misuse the power to sway public opinion. In effect, they are already on their way to puppeteering the entire populace for financial and political gains.

The top of the list are the comcast group, the time warner group, and the news network group. I, personally, think Time Warner is the most vile of the bunch. Their power is self-perpetuating and effectively only limited by consumers' ability to reason and question what they read, attributes which are quickly fading from the mindless masses.

Don't be afraid of government conspiracy, be afraid of media conglomerate conspiracy. When these groups stop fighting each other as they scoop up all the little guys and realize they have collective power that dwarfs the US government, we are really in trouble. The only thing keeping them in check right now is the competition between them.

No, the mall wanted the other guys, but they also didn't want to lose a tenant. Starbucks is using their dominant market position to prevent other stores from competing.

It's anti-competitive when you deliberately open a money-losing store for the sole purpose of driving a competitor out of business. I've seen a couple cases where the Starbucks closes not long after the store it was next to.

Personally, I like having more than one choice. Starbucks doesn't think I should.

it's probably the same patch as the no-cd patch. i hate having to put in CDs of games i bought that don't bother streaming content off the CD. and i hate having to stream content off CDs as well.

steam may be a pain in the ass but it is way better than having to find my CD case, find where i stuck the CD last time i played it (if it isn't in the clutter on my desk), and then play CD jockey whenever i want to play a different game.
