Which Cryorig CPU cooler to buy?

I want to buy a Cryorig CPU cooler to replace my Intel stock cooler. There are 3 models which are H7, H5 Universal, and H5 Ultimate if not mistaken. I'm using Intel i5-3470 and Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H.

All three models are compatible with LGA1155 (your type).

That said, the H5 Ultimate is 168mm tall, so you want to measure the side panel clearance in your case.

Since you're not over-clocking, you would be fine going with one of the other two smaller models.

Don't you think Cryorig H5 and H7 overkill my current specs?

At this point, I am confused on what you are asking.

In the other thread you recently made, you were asking about why your stock Intel cooler became more noisy by playing more demanding games. VirtualLarry explained why it increased its RPM (rotations per minute) because of more energy=more heat=higher RPMs.

So the question comes down to are you looking to add an aftermarket heatsink to reduce your CPU heat more quietly? If you are, almost every aftermarket heatsink will be "overkill" for your CPU. That's the point of the product. It can more easily cool your CPU at a lower RPM.

If you have the side clearance, you can get a $25 cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212, or you can buy one of the ones you asked about.

For i5-3470, no point buying such an expensive cooler. Cryorig M9i at most if you have to have Cryorig, although I would probably go wiht some $20 cheapo cooler like Arctic i11 or similar.

Assuming you're in the US: BeQuiet! Pure Rock Slim $20

I'm going to make something close to a "pronouncement" about this.

I have the same processor which is not in the K-processor tier. It is configured with a Z68 "gen3" motherboard, but that would hardly make a difference. It was a good, cheap deal, when logic would otherwise dictate something like an H77 board.

I wouldn't use anything other than a CM 212 EVO for that processor. That's what I had available, that's what I used, and that's what I would've chosen anyway if it wasn't already in my parts locker.

Anything above that for a processor that you wouldn't overclock will provide better cooling that is "unnecessary" -- unnecessary for noise, unnecessary for stability and performance, unnecessary for the processor's spec and longevity.

That being said, there are probably ways to "mod" or "enhance" the stock cooler, costing maybe half the price of the EVO to eliminate a lot of the noise. I wouldn't bother. Buy the EVO.

Yeah, there are a lot of different budget coolers out there, and it just comes down to whatever is on sale that day. There are always some type of deal going on for heatsinks. In between Newegg, Fry's, Amazon, etc, there is always one that is sub $30 (sometimes via MIR).

It sounded like they specifically wanted a Cryorig cooler, so that's why I didn't understand what their intention was. I guess I figure if they came asking about specific models, they have must have done at least 5 minutes of research. If they had simply asked for advice on a budget cooler for their specific needs, it would have been a much quicker answer.

Now that I had a chance to even look at the prices, the H7 is $29.90 and the M9a (correction M9i as pointed out below) is $18.99 at Newegg ( both which would be more than enough for that CPU). Even the Hyper 212 EVO is $24.99 after $5 MIR.

Although I suspect there is more going on with the system besides a warm CPU:

M9i for the 3470 just $19.99 with the egg. Great value - quieter and easier to mount than a 212 while performing better.

Attempting to mount the M9a will end in frustration on an Intel chip. Different mounts for different brands of the alphabet.

True. I didn't notice they combined both of those coolers onto one product page when I was looking at their website earlier. M9a is only for AMD. Pretty dumb they just didn't make a Intel/AMD mounting system like almost all coolers out there

Almost unnecessary for my comment, but I hadn't looked into the Cryorig units except for brief comparisons of the top-end against others. If the model you cite is that cheap and performs better, then nix the 212. It's just at that point, with the intended use and limitation of the processor and the magnitude of expense, I wouldn't think it would matter that much either way.
