The local Half-price books franchise has once again mailed out a sheet of one-day-only coupons on various merchandise. Since they've got a pretty good selection of PC games, I figure I ought to ask what games of the last few years I've been missing out on so that I might go buy them at stupendous discount - if it's not Half-Life 2, I probably haven't played it yet and should be in for a surprise.
(If you're wondering: Yes, I AM a total miser. This is not helped by my fondness for R/C airplanes, for which hardware crashes are very expensive.)
A quick list I made while I was there yesterday:
1. Fallout 3. At $25, it's cheap even before I take 40% off the price, which is nice. I'm curious as to whether they finally worked out all the bugs, though - I never actually finished Fallout II out of sheer frustration.
2. Assasin's Creed. I honestly expect to either love or hate this game - while I was a huge fan of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and all the parkour goodness therin, I'm the sort of easily bored loser who simply cannot play MMORPGs. Furthermore, I have an allergy to low-grade soft science and I'm not sure that Assasin's Creed is worth the gagging engaged at every mention of "ancestral memory".
3. The Witcher. I've always been something of a fan of RPGs - from Escape Velocity to Baldur's Gate, I played almost nothing but when I was a kid. However, the combination of lame combat systems, boring documentation, and even more boring repetitive "grind" gameplay has soured me to every MMORPG I've ever played - and this game has been described even by its' greatest fans as very much like a sort of single-player WoW. While this game has more awards than a Webbys ceremony, I honestly can't see myself playing it.
Anything else I should be looking for?
