Have you thought about waiting for a HD 6770?

Late October for 6770 and 6870. Chinese AIBs already have samples and are mass producing cards.

6770 = 5850 in performance at slightly higher than current 5770 prices.
6870 = ~35% faster than 5870 for ~$440 USD.

I'd wait a bit. These are going to be the last new cards coming out for a long while as the next transition to 28nm isn't due til Q4 2011 according to TSMC and globalfoundaries.

No official announcement yet, just rumors. 24nm would be pretty effecient

I agree, it looks like it could be one nice card but who knows till it actually comes out. I hate waiting for tech to come out, its a never ending game lol.

Quite a few ppl knows how its going to turn out. And it is good.

Are you really giving people performance estimates based off a random Vantage score? Yikes.

Link to the pricing? That would be interesting to me. I'd also like to know what a 5850 will cost afterso I can Xfire.

Please cease and desist.

OP didn't ask, there was no reason to bring it up.

In the future my action for similar thread derails will be to delete the offending posts and/or hand out some warnings...for now I'm just going to highlight the fact that I don't appreciate this sort of blatant thread derailing.

Good point, IDC. I hope you are just as diligent when someone asks, "What should I do get 2x 5850 and crossfire them, or just get a 5970?" Then all the responses about, "SLI is so ZOMG awesome and just destroys crossfire" with links to the best prices on the net, etc...

Not an accusation towards you. I know you are a newb mod I've just seen it happen too many times with no warnings about thread derailing.

Thanks, and again, I'm not calling you out for others past indiscretions.

I am thinking about waiting for the gtx 460 hawk,
if it is too expensive ill get the evga reference design,
as long as it is not too loud, if it is ill go with a evga 768mb.
I am trying to build a sub-25dba pc. I am getting acoustic foam and everything

Wow that reminds me of the sketch Steward made about fox and the mosque financing a few days ago.. "You know I'm not saying, but.." xX

But seriously: In my opinion there's a difference between suggesting reasonable alternatives and pointing out those advantages/disadvantages and telling someone who wants to buy a GPU now that he should wait because of the new cards for whom not even an official release date exists by now.

b2t: I'd go with an EVGA card because of the great support and a reference design has some advantages, with the reference 460 being silent enough anyways.

First. IDC, I agree.

On topic, I like the MSI cooler, my MSI's have the little fan that is noisey, and people who own the cyclone cooler say its dead quiet and cool.

I really like my Gigabyte 1gb version. It idles at 28-30c and maxes at 66ish(23c room temp), and has a pretty good overclock(125mhz on the core, 100 on the memory). Driver support has been ok, but it is a new card and it needs some time.
