Which GTX 570?

I'm putting a new computer together sometime next week and was wondering which GTX 570 card you guys would recommend. I'm currently looking at EVGA, Gigabyte, and MSI. In the future when prices are reduced i'll be adding another one to SLI.

Evga has a lifetime warranty that they actually stand behind, their rep for cust service is far and away the best among board partners of either camp, they will even warranty modded parts.

AR part is required for lifetime warranty btw. Kr is only 3 years, though you can upgrade to lifetime for ~ $15 when you register the card.

I've been reading that the evga 570's have some noise problems, so i'm kind of leaning towards the gigabyte because of this.

I have two EVGA GTX 570 Classifieds that I'm very happy with.

They use the same PCB / VRMs as a GTX 580 so you can go over 1.1v fairly safely with them. (but you have to mod the bios to go over 1.1v.)

They're a little more expensive than a regular GTX 570 and they may be OOS everywhere, but I'm happy with mine. They're also slightly quieter than a stock GTX 570, but still loud when spinning up past ~70%.

in the future when prices come down you will likely want to sell the the gtx570 and get something better. these gtx570 prices have been holding pretty steady for a long time now too. the Galaxy models have been down to $260 at times but that is the best I have seen. stay away from the regular MSI gtx570 as it actually uses the nosier and cheaper gtx470 cooler.

I have this card and the fan never gets really loud at all even during benchmark loops where I am not using headphones. its just slightly louder than my gtx260. it does have a little whine to it a one certain spot but it only hits that spot for couple of seconds when its slowly ramping up or down. and that is with me trying hard to listen for it. in dead silent room, you will hear any card. my cpu fan and case fans are actually louder than my gpu fan is at idle for sure.

I just purchased the Gigabyte 570 and it runs quieter than my old 6850. If running silent is important than this is the card you want.

Out of curiosity, is this with the fan running on stock? How are the temperatures; how much room is there for lowering the fan profile (in MSI Afterburner) in order to reduce noise even further (at load)?

The card already comes overclocked at 780 MHz stock and it's still quieter than my system fans at idle. It does get louder at load but I don't hear it over the game volume. I haven't bothered to overclock it beyond 780.

Here is a review of MSI TwinFrozr vs. Gigabyte for HD6950. Considering these coolers are pretty much the same on the GTX570, I'd go for the Gigabyte version as it has the more comfortable woosh sound.

Although an even better option seems to be the Asus Direct CUII version of the GTX570.

I meant is it running with the stock fan profile, not stock clocks . MSI Afterburner allows you to change the fan profile, so if the temperatures allow for it, the card could be even quieter

I have the Gigabyte version & it's absolutely dead silent. It's two feet away in a closed case, room is quiet with no running fans or wind from the window. Honestly I can't hear the thing at all unless I put my ear 2 inches to the case...even then it's so quiet & soothing I'm not sure if it's the PSU or the CPU-HSF. My previous 9800Pro was significantly louder than all of my running equipment combined.

Wow, no kidding! That must easily beat a stock GTX 580.

I have a MSI GTX 460 Twinfrozer II and I have the fan profile set to keep it running quiet. Neither games or F@H cause significant amount of noise. From the comments on Newegg it seems like the GTX 570 Twinfrozer III is a top notch choice.

Though seeing spinejam's results, I'd probably give the Asus a try.

Looks like I'm set on the Gigabyte for the silence factor. In my history with video cards I almost end up throwing my computer against a wall when it starts making loud noises.

See, I was wondering about that very thing - how important is the vram? There is a 2 gb 570 out there, but it's like $400, and I don't know if that makes sense or not...

the 1.25gb of vram is just fine for the settings a single gtx570 is capable of. for running sli, then it might be lacking. it would be silly to pay nearly 400 bcks for a gtx570 with 2.50gb of vram when you can can get a gtx580 for not much more.

Well, if you look at it, 1.5gb of vram is optimum for a card like the GTX 580. The problem is, if you were to SLI a pair of them, they would need 3gb of vram on each of them to maintain a relationship whereby the GPU could make use of the frame buffer in an ideal way.

As a single card, the GTX 570 comes with plenty of vram and you won't be bottlenecked in current games. Even in SLI, so long as you game at 1920x1200 or lower you will be fine for now.

It probably won't be until the new year until we have cheap 2gb cards.

Right now is not a good time to purchase a GPU IMO. My advice to you is to try to find something on sale that suits your needs. I've been seeing the 1gb GTX 460s go for around $100 lately, and a pair of them in SLI would crush the 570 for less money. Even a single GTX 460 can handle just about any game out there at moderately high settings.
