you know at any time you can show us the vram game benches from 2014

When a game break the 2GB wall at 1080p, the performance that GTX 770/680 will drive at this conditions will be insufficient even with higher amount of memory. Or the Nvidia engineering team was all wrong with the decision to go with less RAM than your rival?

AMD gives 50% more ram because they think of the use of the card in higher resolutions. Their nvidia counterparts are targeted on more mainstream markets.
2011/2012 were the years when 1 GB Vram barrier were broke. Maybe at the end of next year the 2GB barrier will broke. Is better to the user go for an AMD card if he cares about memory....

Hey guys, opinion on the GTX 780 FTW edition vs the GTX 780 Classified? There is now a huge price difference between them ($50) and the specs look pretty similar, with just a small clock difference. Is the power the only other real difference?

Yesterday there was only a $20 difference in price but I hesitated and now Amazon has raised the Classified price from $549 to $579.

for many people 580sli 1,5Gb is badly limited now, (or so i´ve read people complaining)
while 580sli 3Gb is still a pretty good performer
(depending on game and settings of course)

more vram can help lengthen the lifespan of cards

with the new consoles out, the need for vram will probably increase pretty steep soon

(i bought 770sli 2Gb just before 780 dropped from 600€ to 450€ within a day, it´s very potent and i´m happy with performance, but next year this time, who knows)

for 1920X1200 without any downsampling, 770 2Gb should still be fine (also next year)
for bigger resolutions, go 780

the classified has a much bigger cooler and the gpus are binned/preselected for specimens that overclock high, and i think more power phases (the whole pcb is higher, look at the distance from the fans to the edge of the cards on pics)
(maybe the ftw has binning for good chips, too, but i don´t know)

The classified features a very robust PCB design where the FTW is reference I believe. Classified is a tank in comparison, worth 20-30 bucks more, esp if you plan robust OC to match. Not sure how B1 revision supply is, more likely to get one with classified?

Are you sure you need that much horsepower? The classified is designed for guys shooting for world records. It is designed for those aspiring for LN2 benchmarking and what not.

That said, plenty of regular end users by classifieds as well. It is designed for overclocking from top to bottom, and it is better than the FTW in that respect. I'd say get the classified if you're wanting to get amazing overclocks with over-voltage capability. For that it's an amazing card.

If you just want to game, any GTX 780 aftermarket card is fine really. I would look for one with a custom PCB, however - I do not believe the FTW is a custom PCB, although I could be wrong.

I mainly game at 1920 x 1200 currently. Not sure when I would jump into 4K resolutions but most likely it wouldn't be for a couple of years.

I usually upgrade my system every 3 years, but the CPUs have stagnated so much that my 4.5 Ghz 2600K is still very relevant. My normal upgrade cycle would have me replacing it in 2014 but I don't believe that is necessary. Instead, I'm upgrading some of the components in the rig in my sig: two new SSDs (a 250 GB and 500 GB) to replace the old SSDs and the 750 GB drive, a Seasonic 750 W Platinum power supply, hot swap bays for the SSDs, and I'll likely go ahead and break down and install Windows 8.1 too. Otherwise I'll do standard maintenance at that time -- thoroughly clean the box, replace faulty fans, etc.

Even my 6870 still plays just about everything I want (though a tad slow in some cases), but at over 3 years old, I want to replace it with something better. I anticipate this next card would probably also last me 3 years.

I have the upgrade itch as well but my 5870 handles Battlefield 4 at medium and WoW/SCII High/Ultra so I really can't justify it.

My next build is gonna be a mini ITX though.

OP Blackened has a good point on Classified price point and if you plan to push it. Would a good non-ref design do the trick? MSI Gamer 780 is $ 469 after rebate on the Egg. Good power components and a proven cooler..

Well, I have to buy from Amazon due to all my reward points. And you're right, I don't really need the Classified since I probably won't push it more, but I wouldn't mind a factory overlocked model which is why I was looking at the FTW.

If you're upgrading from the card in your sig, I think you'd be fine with any GTX 780. It's just hard not to recommend the best OCing 780's since the 780 is one of those cards that really shine after being overclocked to the ceiling.

I usually only buy reference cards but the GTX 780 is a big exception with it's OC ability.

I own the FTW.

Its not reference and its an 8 phase design vs the reference GTX780's (6 phase). It slots between the SC (overclocked reference board) and the Classified (14 phase design)

yeah, the ftw is the second best thing evga has to offer, should also oc like nuts
really depends whether you are into high overclocking or don´t mind the higher price
it also might be more quiet at the same clocks, but none of the acx cooler cards are any loud, i think

i can't go past 1Gb usage on mine. 1920x1080.

the ASUS is the best of the bunch, followed by the gigabyte, then by the MSIs. (the ASUS is also very cheap, at £251)
The others haven't really been tested, but im sure you can't buy a "bad" 770. I considered the Gainward Phantom for a while since it was so cheap, and it's apparently very good too.But i settled for a Gb, and from my point of view, it's awesome.

SO QUIET. srsly, whisper quiet, idk if im doing it wrong but it makes no noise.

I bought the gigabyte 770 Too and it's stupid quiet. I initially thought the fans didn't work and kept checking on it and it stays cool as too.

I've found that Gigabyte usually has the best prices on units with customer coolers, but unlike EVGA, I don't think their warranty carries over past the initial owner. My Windforce-3-cooled 780 Ti is pretty quiet overall, and that's considering that I have it in a case that doesn't have the best airflow in the world. I was playing some Devil May Cry to test it out the other day, and the hottest it got was 71C with ~55% fan speed. It was a bit quieter in my other case, but that case was just too small.

i have a pretty bad one, or at least much worse than the other one i have
palit 770 3 fan design (not jet stream, those are always reviewed very positively)
http://www.google.de/imgres?q=palit...&w=500&h=320&ei=N8PCUr20EoeNtQbBhIGYDQ&zoom=1
it´s 10-15°C hotter than my inno 3d herculez 2000 and produces an annoying coil whine, real loud, runs into thermal throttling within 1minute even though fans @ 100% with 1176 boost (which it doesn´t hold, goes down to 1100), it even runs into thermal throttling when i set temp target to 95°C (i don´t do that on a regular basis)
the other one is really quiet, oc to 1254/2000 boost with ease (no volt mods)
both cards cost the same

I'd go with eVGA. I've got 2 eVGA GTX 460 1GB SLI in a friend's system heavily overclocked and they just won't die!. I'd go with the 4GB eVGA GTX 770, overclock it and you have GTX 780-like performance for a lot less.

I haven't purchased yet, but I'm currently leaning towards the 780 FTW. It is only a small premium ($30) from the standard 780s but has a good cooler and good factory OC.

Sounds like a plan OP. Will close in mentioning Amazon has MSI 780 Lightning and Gigabyte Ghz edition (GV-N780GHZ-3GD), both worth the extra coin. Enjoy whatever new card you get!

Arrrrggghh, more choices! Good to see they have the Lightning back in stock and that Gigabyte looks awesome as well. Is that the highest factory OC available?

yes I think the Gigabyte features the highest factory oc, B1 revision, Samsung memory. Very nice card

I filled out the form on Amazon's site to see if they'd match Newegg's price on the Gigabyte card (Newegg is $30 cheaper). We'll see what happens.
