what 30-40gig 7200RPM EIDE harddrive would be the best in quality/performance/seektime?

I'm also looking for a great deal on this drive somewhere around $150

OK looks like these are the drives I'm looking into:

- Maxtor DiamondMax40 Plus 30.7GB 7200rpm
- Seagate Barracuda ATA-II 30.6GB 7200rpm
- Quantum Fireball Plus LM 30GB 7200rpm

System:
Pentium II 450MHz w/256Mb Ram running on Windows 2000 Professional
(I might plan to switch to Windows Millenium)

I haven't read about maxtor, but thru Tomshardware guide, the Quantum is good w/ 2k but not w/ 98... and Seagate's got the fastest seek (8.2ms) and transfer... can anyone help me decide between the three?

thanx

You won't be able to tell the difference between any of them. Just get the cheapest one.

Like most people said here, you really can't go wrong with any of them. If you don't win the bid for the Seagate, my personal pick of the three would be the quantum fireball lm, check out http://www.storagereview.com for some more info on all the drives.

Forgot to tell you, quantum is also running rebates on all their LM drives, I think you can get a rebate for $30 off the 30gig version.

but quantum fireball LM is the most noisy drive.
maxtor isn't very overclockable.

I'll choose an IBM drive if I were you, quiet
and doesn't bother running with strange FSB.

My Maxtor DM 40+ 30 gig has no problems running at 41,5 MHz PCI speed, neither has my Maxtor 4320 13 gig.

I've been really happy with the DM40+, it's fast and quiet, although it does get a bit hot, but my case is very cramped, so I guess that's to be expected.

While the Maxtor 40 plus (30 gig)series is Is very fast and quiet,
(I own one) I would recommend the Seagate Barrcuda due to the
faster seek time. Other than that, they're both first class!
