for the past few months my every day use phones have been the AKG Q701 or Sennheiser HD650, been too lazy and tired to unbox and plugin anything better.

Rocking out to AKB48 and Morning Masume on those things? :awe:

Sennheiser Momentums over-ears -- they just came out with Momentum version 2.

Set me back $250 but leather, steel, Kevlar, and pretty good looking. Sound's good too. Only problem is that it squashes my ears. Slightly bigger cups would have been good.

Sennheiser HD598 here. I like them, but should get a DAC/amp.

how long have you had them?

i am hoping they are more durable than the 5*5 series. my 555 and 595 each lasted about 5 years before the sides broke.

HD280 Pro's. They're ok but if I had your budget I would have sprung for something nicer. They get the job done though.

audio-technica ATH-M50. They sound good but could use a tad more bass. After 6 months to a year the pads wear down and cause discomfort. I added a thin layer of foam but I really need to get velour pads. They are closed back so they do get warm while wearing. I also have a small head so I need to tilt them forward on my head so the fit.

AKG K271 mkII w/ DT pads (old Austrian ones, just to be as smug as possible ). Kind of bass light, though less so than w/ stock pads.

I swap them with AKG K7XX for open cans.

also bose is overpriced junk

Normally I would agree with you but they are incredibly well regarded from the noise cancelling aspect and I have yet to personally find a pair that does a better job. I died a little bit inside when I bought my QC20s but after a couple of flights with them I love them. Crying baby right behind me? Didn't even notice

For home use I a Beyerdynamic DT-990 and for working out I use the Sony MDR-J10s. (Which no longer appear to be made? I guess I should buy a couple from ebay as backups for when I kill them with sweat\gym bag abuse)

Bose makes pro gear, and noise canceling headphones for aviation have been one of their big things for ages. Most of their consumer stuff is Beats-like junk, but I wouldn't doubt they have top-notch noise cancellation, since they already have the R&D done for it, engineers that know that tech inside and out, and I'm sure a huge relevant patent portfolio.

I have the Sennheiser HD555's.

I've had them about 6 years, and they're great, but the pivot hinge on each side is about ready to go.

I've actually been looking for a replacement. This thread will help.

HD650's look sweet, but $450+ seems steep.
