Massdrop tends to have regular sales on higher end headphones if anyone is in the market, generally ranging from $100-1,200

I assume that you need closed headphones based on the options in your OP? I would love to use open cans at home but alas, I need to keep my options to closed ones.

Also sounds like you're a bit of a bass head - I've heard the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro and ATH-M50x are a bit bass heavy if that's your preference. Depending on what these will be plugged into, you might also want to pickup a decent DAC/amp.

I'm currently using the Oppo PM-3s and like them quite a bit, though they could be qualified as neutral to bass-light.

skull candy crusher, i can turn the bass up when i feel like being a bass head. I have a couple of different sennheiser's and Ultrasone pro 780 but I always go back to the crushers because their more fun.

Yes, exactly, I am looking for closed back. I do love me some bass, but also would like to be able to use them for monitoring sound on videos that I create. I am sure that something that is a bit heavy on the bass will still be okay for that.

Heavily considering the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro with an amp at this point.

^For bass nothing beats the Crusher's, sounds like having large subs, just buy another pair for monitoring.

Denon D600. Used Sennheiser Momentum over-ears before that, but the earcups are a tad small (never tried the 2nd versions that have the larger cups)

The Sennheiser HD 600's for home use. Arguably the best deal in headphones right now for quality to price ratio. Got 'em for $320 on Amazon although they are back up to 400 bucks these days. When I got them a year ago they changed the way I heard music. Seriously these things are masterful. If you can add an extra 100 bucks to your budget it will give you far more value than anything else near your price point. They are a significant step up from anything in the Sennheiser HD500 range fyi.

Fuck the Bose ones no matter what though. The HD 600's are open eared but still worth it. Get the 1st gen Senn momentums for your closed ear headphone usage. You can get the 1st gen momentums on amazon for 80 bucks. Keep in mind these were $300 at launch and every review said they were worth every penny. At 80 bucks? A steal. They are a bit bass heavy. Seriously, anyone who has 80 bucks and doesn't have the Senn Momentums should go buy these right now on Amazon while they last.

I use the Sennheiser Momentums and Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro IEM's for portable use, depending on my mood. For portable over the ear headphones, tough to beat the Senns again.

V1 of the over-ear Momentums suck (earcups are waay too small).
V2 should be much better (assuming the sonics are the same).

I use a set of Sony MDR-RF865R wireless headphones and some Panasonic clip ons (can't stand in-ear things) for use with my mobile phone.

I have a gaming headset somewhere, just can't remember what they are or where I put them when I moved.

I actually love the V1 over ear Momentums - though it depends on whether your ears fit or not. They fit no problem for me and I'm using them as my portable pair as they're a screaming bargain IMO for $160ish, are super light, and are cheap enough I can throw in my bag without worrying about them.

I do prefer the PM-3s for in-home quite a bit however.

I have too many pairs to remember.

Prominent ones are

AKG Q701's
Audio Technica AD700's
Audio Technica M50's
Fostex T50rp's
UE TripleFi 10's
Klipsch x10's
LG Tone 750 (Surprisingly good bluetooth headphones/headset)

I've got a problem.

I'm anti quality for headsets, so I have the cheaper basic RCA and Koss headsets. I guess I'm more focused on video.

my first set of "professional" headphones were a set of Sennheiser, i have looked for the model but cannot find it, it's been 15 years. Anyway, they were horrible, mediocre sound, completely flat earcups, hard as concrete, expensive. It put me off sennheiser for life.

i've been using beyer DT100 for a couple years, since it's both what the studio had, and what my mate got for his home recording (i dont like mixing.. or even listening, on headphones).
shocking that his two pairs of DT100 sound completely different; so much for "reference".

now i have a audio technica AD900X in the mail, have great hopes. reviews on head-fi are both consistently high and consistently similar, so i'm hoping on a wide soundscape and a near-reference sound. they were also half of MSRP at £100, while the manufacturer's website puts them at £200+.

At home for general listening: Sennheiser HD 598
At home in my home office: Sennheiser RS 180
At home with my living room TV: Sennheiser RS 180
At home in bed: Apple earbuds - Can't lie comfortably on a pillow with cans
At workplace #1: Sennheiser RS 160
At workplace #2: Some el cheapo Sony I got on sale for $20
Out and about when I want to hear traffic: Apple earbuds
Out and about when I don't want to hear traffic: Etymotic ER-4P
On the airplane: Etymotic ER-4P

I refuse to buy a headphone amp, hence the Sennheiser HD 598 and Etymotic ER-4P.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros. I've had them for just over 3 years and they are my first pair of "quality" headphones, as the ones I've owned before were all ~$20-$30 dollar pairs from Walmart and the like.

To me, the sound quality is excellent, especially the bass. They're durable enough and nothing has broken or is worn on them. They're comfortable, but after a couple of hours wearing them my ears get a little sore. I kind of move them forward or backward on my ears at that point and it eases the soreness a bit. I'm not sure if that's the fault of these headphones or if most any over/closed-ear headphones would do that after a couple of hours.

Anyway, I'd absolutely buy another pair of Sennheisers whenever my 280s die or cease to exist.

In the house, Etymotic ER4S. In the gym or using portables, Etymotic ER4P. I never use on-the-ear headphones anymore.
