Hi
I want to replace my current K6/2 350 system with a Duron 700 System.
For motherboard I will go with the MSI K7T Pro2 as it seems to me the best one concerning stability/overclocking. Maybe the only problem is boardlayout around the Cpu. I think there is not very much room for big heatsinks because of the capacitors. Which heatsink will fit on this mainboard and which will not fit? It should be also of the quiet type. I think of the Chrom orb or Coolermaster DP5-5H51 or DP5-6H51. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you search the reviews here at Anantech's site you'll find a write up on the board. From what I read the Capacitors are from the CPU socket so I guess any Heatsink/Fan should do. Though the top of the lines if you really want to overclock I hear are Globalwin FOP32-1(Quiet), FOP38 (Cooler but noisier), Alpha PAL6035 or newly revised Alpha PEP66. I also use ArcticSilver thermal grease to increase the heat transfer between the cpu and HSF. There's a write up at www.2cooltek.com. Look on the sidebar of new HSF's. It shows the PEP66 as the most effecient with a low noise 23.5 cfm Sunon fan at that. 2Cooltek are out of them, but you can purchase them from www.milsec.com. Whatever you decide read reviews first and compare.

Hi flash,

One of the upgrades MSI made to the Pro2 over the original Pro is that they moved the capacitors farther away from the socket. Even though it has more and bigger Capacitors, you actually have significantly more room for these better HS/Fans. I didn't want to spend the money on the fancy over 30 dollar Heatsinks so I ordered the TaiSol for my Pro2. I ordered the one that is 12.00 + shipping directly from their website. It is currently keeping my 800 tbird nice and cool at 990. The motherboard reports 37 C, and it has been rock solid. If i touch the HS it is cool at top by the fan and slightly warmer at the base.

good luck.

Hey guys,

I had a Chrome Orb on the MSI Pro and it was alittle to tight for my liking. before I put my Alpha on my new Pro2-A, I try the Chrome Orb for kicks. It's like a freakin Cadallic in there. No prob on fitting the Big super orb or probably any other heat sink.

FOP, Alpha 6035 or Super ORB are all good coolers....heck the oem Cooler master I have keeps the chip at 43/46.

I have an Alpha 6036, Super Orb, and FOP38 that I use on my K7T Pro2.. All of them fit. They all fit, but the Super Orb doesn't perform as well as the other two..

Don't get the Chrome Orb. -At least- get the Super Orb, though I'd prefer an Alpha 6035 or FOP38.

I suggest that you get the FOP32-1 which is quieter than the FOP38. For $20 you can't go wrong price/preformance wise. If you really want to push overclocking/cooling envelope get the Kanie Hedge Hog (all copper hard to find) or the Alpha PEP66U (Copperbase inlay base and aluminum fins). I took the cheap route and 3 coolers later I've bought an Alpha, which I should've done in the first place. You won't regret it.
