These are for my dad at work, and they do mostly Accounting Programs, and large databases.

Here are the contestants:

In the Red Corner:

PIII 667 FC-PGA
128MB PC133 Ram
17" ATX Case
Panasonic 48X CDROM
Panasonic 1.44MB Floppy
Maxtor 20.4 7200RPM hard drive
Fujitsu Keyboard
MS Wheel Mouse
Asus CUV4X
3Com Ethernet Card
SB 128 PCI
ATI XPERT@98 8MB AGP

Total: $ 1236.33

In the Blue Corner:

AMD ThunderBird 750
ATX 17" Case
128MB PC133 Ram
48X CDROM
Panasonic 1.44MB Floppy
Maxtor 20GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Fujitsu Keyboard
MS Wheel Mouse
Asus A7V Motherboard
3Com Ethernet Card
SB 128 PCI
AT XPERT@98 8MB AGP

Total: 1227.33

Which will be the winner? Well, I like the TBird one better, and what I plan to do is, trade the TBird 750 for my Duron 650, and get a Duron 650 in the other computer

I get a TBird 750 then

What is the strengths and weaknesses of each computer?

Thanks for any input!!!

gee, they're basically the same system, one with a p3 and one w/ a higher clock thunderbird... obviously the thunderbird wins, DUH! Please excuse me, I'm feeling cooky today

"I" know that the TBird is better, but I am making this thread to prove to my Dad and his friend that the TBird is more popular, and will be better

Actually, one system will have a Duron 650. Would it still be better than the PIII? It would be $105 cheaper

The P3 with the 133mhz fsb will be faster. Although the speed will be negligible.

Personally, I'd just go with the Asus CUSL-2 and onboard video and sound. Save a few bucks and the accounting programs won't notice the difference.

Btw, most people here are very much AMD fans. Just because one group (such as this one) votes for one or the other, does not necessarily make it the better choice.

Either of those systems will do great and I personally would recommend the tbird system for no other real reason than you get more performance for the same price. The store your buying this system from should know how to properly set up either system so you should have no more problems with one system than the other.

I think the blue looks better. Whichever way you go, I would swap the Asus mobos for some MicroStars, the MicroStar 815E Pro is the best motherboard for PentiumIIIs, and the K7T Pro2A is the best for Tbirds.

[Btw, most people here are very much AMD fans]...

Might be because we do our own research on the net and not listen to the intel propaganda "MACHINE"

Wingnutz, Why would that be faster? AMD has the 200MHz DDR.....

Thanks everyone for the responses, I am hoping that this will persuade my dad to go with AMD

I would actually go for the AMD system, as the motherboard in the Pentium system you chose is a poor performer (memory bandwidth) without nerdy hex-tweak utilities, and has poor PCI performance.

if you traded the cuv4x for a CUSL2 or MSI 815 board i'd probably go with the intel then.
