which game out of GTA IV and Saints row 2 is better and why.

if you have only played one of the two it would be nice to hear your thoughts on the game pros and cons but please dont say one is better than the other if you have only played on of them.

also could you include in your post a basic outline of your setup, im running a core 2 duo t7700 in a toshiba laptop with a ATI 2600HD video card.

oh and if anyone has played the stranglehold game, on PC, id appreciate your opinions on that too.

Cheers

Saints row 2. I think they tried to make GTA IV to realistic and that took a lot of fun out of the game. Just my opinion though.

Yeah I have to go with Saints Row 2... They took way too much out of GTA IV compared to previous installments, ie, gang territories, tons of weapons, being able to buy diff homes/income generating buildings, and a whole lot more stuff I can't remember. It seems they added all that stuff to SR2 and then some. In the end, I had a lot more fun with SR2 then GTAIV, but both are still great games.

Yes, I have played Stranglehold on PC and actually loved the gameplay, it's a really fun game to play although not very long. The levels were all quite well designed. The Bullet-time shooting sequences are all neat to carry out. The shooting fests are often very intense with multiple enemies rushing at you or shooting from cover (specially in the later levels of the game). Most of the environment is destructible which makes you shift from cover to cover pretty frequently while you eliminate the enemies. All the in-game cutscenes are well made and the in-game graphics are nicely crafted. Overall, it's not at all a ground-breaking game in the genre but it's a fun game which you might want to check out. I would recommend it.

There is one thing in the game I hated though, the stand-off shooting sequences!

I heard about the bad controlling elements on the PC version of SR2, has prevented me from buying the game.

Only played GTA4. As all gta games for me, its great to just load it and waste half an hour driving like a maniac. I guess the only ennoying part is lots of features were removed, otherwise the graphics and physics (like car damage) are great.

Played both, I played GTA IV first and was totally hooked from start to finish. I thoroughly loved the storyline of the game. As for saints row, I played that game about 6 months after it was released. It's definitely much more wacky and has a more sandbox feel. The story isn't bad either, but I'm only about 30% in and I don't really play it anymore.

There are a ton of elements of Saints Row which make it more of a sandbox game that I wish was implemented into GTA IV which would have made it even more fun, but as it stands, I prefered GTA IV.

If the next scheduled GTA is going to be San Andreas style, I'd consider it nothing short of perfect

There is no lifting weight in GTA4 this time and you don't have to eat, but you can regain your health by doing so. I know you've heard the complaints about GTA4 and its poor performance without a quad core processor, but it is a great game if your computer can handle it. The only thing I didn't like was your friends calling you all the time wanting to go out drinking and what not while you are are just wanting to do your own thing. Of course you can choose not go with them, but it pisses them off. From the reviews I've read Saints Row 2 is a terrible port with terrible frame rate issues in the PC version regardless of system specs. See here. This has kept my from buying it. I may get it for the 360 when it is in the bargain bin. I have played Saints Row on the 360, but I just couldn't get into it like the GTA series and still haven't finished it.

After reading this thread I went to Youtube to look at SR2 videos. I love GTA SA, but have been wanting to try a newer game of the genre. Anyway, what I saw in those SR2 videos didn't impress me at all. Animations are horrid, graphics(although vids were low quality so maybe they're better than I saw) seem bleh, Gameplay looks arcady as hell. I was not impressed at all.

Metacritic has SR2 at 72 and GTA4 at 90. On the consoles the disparity was even greater. Maybe it comes down to personal taste and opinion, but objectively, the overwhelming majority of opinion has held GTA4 to be the superior game, and further, one of the best ever made.

HAHAHA ah man... funny stuff. GTA IV sucked balls on the PC, if they ran it on a supercomputer it would chug.

Anyways i think saints row 2 was better, its just more... fun. Isnt that what games are about? Fun? GTA IV was great but really i just liked saints row 2 better.

I've played them both, but haven't played either on the pc.

It's tough to pick a favorite. They've become so different that it's hard to compare. I had a blast playing both, but found Saints Row 2 too easy, especially after getting unlimited pistol ammo, and dual pistols. There is a pair of pistols that do a ridiculous amount of damage. As far as replay value goes, I haven't gone back to play either in a while, mostly because Saints Row 2 is so easy it gets boring, and I've just run out of things to do in GTA.

I really wish they had silenced pistols in GTA. That was my favorite gun.

So, your saying that because your system cant run it it sucks balls? Because you need a decent comp to run it does not equal bad a bad game. What about the game is worse on the pc? I enjoyed it more on the pc(i have it on both 360 and pc)The game runs fine on my system and i do not have a super computer. C2d E6600 @ 2.4(stock speed) 4 gig of ram and a gtx 260. You do not NEED a quad core to run the game at playable frame rates. Dose it run worse than it should because it's a port? yes. Is it utterly unplayable? no. I feel the whole gta running poorly is blown a little out of proportion.

Blah blah stop making excuses for an extremely sloppy port. GTA IV is good.... on the 360.

It runs great on the supercomputer in sig.. But it certainly wouldn't run well on a mainstream pc, so clearly the console version is the way to go if you don't have a pc fit for gaming.

GTA 4 hands down. Saints Row 2 was decent, and I loved the weapons...but overall, despite it trying to be a more realistic game, GTA 4 beats it in every aspect I think. Graphics, physics, sound, gameplay, controls in GTA 4 whoop SR2 HANDS DOWN. In my opinion Saints Row 1 even crushes SR2.

It should be "which is better GTA4 or SR1"

If you've got a decent PC, it looks and runs so much better. To each their own.

Only played GTA4 but I found it to be extremely enjoyable. The storytelling is great, very hip and witty with a good pace to advancing the overall story line. I'll say your overall enjoyment will probably be higher if you enjoy driving games, as you do spend a lot of time driving around back and forth in a game world that's equivalent in size, scope and detail to Manhattan and the 5 boroughs.

Its also a GFWL title and supports full 360 controller mapping and rumble. I played the first half with KB+mouse and have been trying to adjust to using my 360 controller. Overall I find the KB+mouse to be easier to control, even when driving, but the rumble on the 360 controller certainly makes it more engaging and joyable.

As for performance.....your laptop should still run GTA4 well enough and it'll still look better than the console versions, but you'll most likely need to turn down quite a few settings, particularly view distance. GTA4 definitely takes advantage of all the halo specs on modern PCs like quad core, 4GB+ RAM, 1GB+ video RAM etc, but you can just drop down settings to 1280x720, 20ish view distance, all textures, shadow, render quality to low and you'll still have a better looking game at higher FPS than the console versions.

I have played both although not on PC and find SR2 much more enjoyable. GTA4, like many have said, is just not "fun" as previous versions. And Niko is either tough or a pussy. He can't seem to be one or the other and became very annoying. I shelved it months ago as it was becoming very boring. Even tho I finished SR2 I still drop it in and play because its just so much fun!
