Which is the better processor?

Ok i was going to go with - Processor-

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor

Now it's a different socket so ill need a different mobo. But i mean which is better? the intel one is 2.4 ghz and amd is 2.0 ghz. I know there's more to it than just ghz. How much will both overclock too? Help!!!

What are you using it for? In this particular case in almost every use the 3000+ will be the better performer.

The A64 3000+ absolutely KILLS the 2.4A in everything.

The Athlon64 3000+ will blow the doors off that Prescott 2.4a. The Prescott may OC betterm but the Athlon64 will still win after OC'ing

A64 3000+ for sure! You would expect it to overclock to at least 3200+ speeds. and it will still beat a 3.2GHz P4 in games. Prescotts runs hot and comparing a northwood 3.2Ghz and a Prescott 3.2Ghz and the Northwood will come out faster.

Go with the A64 easy.

But in defense of Nick it seems the only "sh!t" you post seems to be about the same thing. We try to minimize the number of new threads because people who do searches will most likely find the best info that way because everything is consolidated to one thread rather than there being "X" number of crap threads that are worthless.

Well for quick reference, the PR numbers the athlon 64 chips have are to compare speeds with the p4s.

An athlon 64 3000+ is slightly faster then a 3Ghz P4, and athlon 64 3200+ is slight faster then a 3.2Ghz P4, an athlon 64 3700+ is faster then a 3.7Ghz P4.

These numbers are general though, there are a small few programs the p4 would win, but for the most part, the athlon 64 is faster and cheaper.

I did a search on "Dorito" and Nick is right. On the other hand we put up with Nick while he learned so.....I'll cut you some slack.
