I really dont have a preference & ive had a lot of different brands(asus, abit, iwill, soyo, msi, gigabyte, & even a few generic brands) & all worked great. I basically buy the one that has the features(RAID) I want with the chipset im looking for.

Same here. I used to use ASUS quite a bit, but lately been using others. ASUS seems to lack the overclocking features I need. On the 815 boards (xUSL2), they lack a 1/4 PCI divider below 133 FSB, and have problems requiring a special (hacked) BIOS above 140 MHz FSB. They also have limited voltage tweaks (no undervolt, max 1.6 Vcore). For the 815, the ABIT ST6 and Gigabyte GA6OXET (very nice board) are better boards. I recently went to a P4/i845 setup. I looked at the ASUS P4B266, but it lacks a 3:4 mem ratio @ 133 FSB and above. This was an important feature for me. I went for the EPOX 4BDA2+ since it did have this feature. The EPOX works great! I'm running 150 FSB, 2.4GHz, 400 MHZ DDR.

Asus and Abit top the list for me, but I think that the most critical element for stability is the chipset.

1) ASUS; A7V133 was too stable for me
2) Epox; 8KHA+ has been doing well for me, would be #1 but the 7KXA board I didn't like very much
3) AOpen; AX6BC with the 440 BX chipset, still going now in another computer.
3) ABit; Could be at #2 spot, but not sure if the board is bad or not, ran the KX133 chipset very well, stable compared to the older Epox for me.

I had a lot of trouble out of two different K6-2 Tyan and FIC motherboards. The operating system kept getting the blue screen of death with 95 & 98. One other board I had no problems with were PC chip motherboards. They are not to powerful motherboards but do work good for me when I tried them. My Asus CUSLV-2 is what I use now and I like it a lot. It has been the best motherboard I've had so far.

Epox, Soyo, and MSI...

Epox is what I'm using
Soyo, I've used before and I liked the quality/features..
MSI, my friends and I have built more than a few systems using these, and all of em were good and working right out of the box. I like the red PCB too

I'm not much for Asus and Abit, since I'm all about price/performace/features, and with some of those mobos, you pay more for a name than for a product.

I have the DRV2 and it's totally amazing. Perfect for overclocking and has everything I need. My computer has been completely stable for over a month now, that has to be some sort of record for me.

I have built three computers with ASUS motherboards, my #2 with a P5A and K6-3 400 (which I still have, oh the nostalgia), my #3 with an A7V and Athlon 1.2 (plenty fasst), and my friends with a A7V-133 and Athlon 1.2. It's just that I was so impressed with my P5A that I look first to ASUS.

My next MB will be an ASUS or an Abit. In my experience, and I am a thoughtful person, what I see is very good and stable hardware and rather sloppy and unreliable software (that includes drivers). I have never, I don't think, ever had a hardware problem, it has always turned out to be a software issue.

I base all my purchases on reviews, by the way.

Reliability is simply a requirement.
