Anders Hejlsberg really deserves the credit. The work he did on both Turbo Pascal and Delphi put anything VB was doing at the time to shame.

Which is why MS stole him away to create C#

Yeah, agreed at a technical level. But Phillipe Kahn deserves the credit for having the vision and assembling and financing the team to create the tools. Didn't save his company, though.

T-SQL would probably be my most comfortable language followed by VB.NET and C#.

He also had a usable C++ out long before Microsoft. Unfortunately in the early-to-mid '90s the DoJ wasn't watching Microsoft development tools and MS was allowed to engage in dirty tricks like holding back "beta" Windows headers from Borland for months (6 months?) to favor their Visual C/C++ over Borland's tools.

So anyone wanting to develop for future versions of Windows before release needed to switch to MS tools, or wait months longer. Visual C/C++ was "good enough" so Borland lost their customers.

C, C++, PHP, C#, JavaScript (basically most C-based languages).
Others : SQL (a lot), XSLT, SVG, HTML, CSS and Pascal
I also feel confident in VB, but I don't like it so much anymore (I played a lot with it, but always ended using Win APIs directly within VB, so I switched to C++).

Re: Anders Hejlsberg, Pascal & C# :
I still remember the awesomeness of Pascal compared to QuickBasic as the time (QBasic in Dos 6.22) => units, OOP, font system, etc. (and compared to QBasic, exe compilation !)
I also feel quite the same now comparing Delphi to C# (Aaah, generics, lambda expressions, type inference, etc.)
