Which Laptop CPU Speed?

Sorry for my ignorance, but Ive been out of the loop for a bit.

Im loking to buy a new laptop soon. I will be going overseas, and need something to play games, VOIP, Netcam, Internet..blah blah.
I would like someone to explain CPU tiers to me. Like where does a Turion rank next to Sempron, next to 64 and so forth.

My cap is $1500, but would like to keep it to $1000.

AMD mobile CPU performance:
Sempron
Turion ~= Athlon 64

Turion & Athlon are same performance at same clock & same L2 cache. Turion uses a LOT less power.

Intel mobile CPU performance:
Celeron M
Pentium M
Core Solo (Yonah, single core)
Core Duo (Yonah, dual core)

A Celeron M is basically a Pentium M with less cache & no Speedstep. Yonah is a whole new core, with better performance even at the same block. Also better power management too

The Duo Core Intel solution gets my nod. You will be disippointed over the performance of the entry level processors in this field such as the Celeron M and Semron. The Duo Core Intel and Turion are the best of the lot with the Turion perhaps being a bit less power hungry, a point that may or maynot be significant unless you spend a lot of time on the battery. In summary, I would chose the Duo Core solution if you only have ocassional use off battery and the Turion if you have extensive use off battery.
