Which laptop to buy?

I think I'm in need of some serious assistance with a laptop purchase. I thought I had things narrowed down to an "R" series Thinkpad, but I just went to a local electronics store and saw the widescreen displays of the HP notebooks.

Does anyone have experience with them? Are they reliable? It seemed like after looking at the widescreen display, I couldn't go back to the "regular" displays.

Any feedback would be very helpful. Thank you.

Depends on what you plan to do with it... If you are a business user or Student with some cash and want something to last a long time then IBM would be the way to go. But to be able to get what you can with some other laptops it will cost you some major cash. Look to Sager or somebody like that if you want a basic lappy with some nice add-ons.

I have a Toshiba 15.4" lappy which has a wider screen, similar to the 17" ones. The only issue is that the aspect ration is not the same as a monitor, it also is not exactly 16x9, thus you still get a black band on top and bottom when playing movies in letterbox format. Full-screen games are stretched a bit, thus I run stuff in a windowed mode. But, I still love the screen. It has a native resolution of 1280x800.
