Which Memory? (Make, Model, Heatsink, etc.)

So I'm buying new memory soon for my new build, and I'm wondering which memory to buy. Currently I have some G.Skill which I never had any issues with, so I wouldn't mind going with them again. However, I'm always open to anything if it can be proven to be better.

I'm probably going for 8GB of 1600, as I don't see why I'd really need more for my build. Anything over that really doesn't seem like it's worth it at all.

As for heatsinks, I'm really unsure what's best. G.Skill, for instance, has a few general models (Ripjaws, Ares, Sniper), which basically cost the same. I'm having difficulties believing one is really substantially better than the other.

Ideas? :awe:

Just be sure it fits under/near your cooler (if your mobo is so configured). I have a CM Hyper 212, and the modules I picked have nice, low heat sinks that just cleared the bottom fins of the cooler.

I've had quite good luck with my G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 MHz stuff (red heatsink that sticks up a bit)... I have 4x 4 GB, bought two separate 8 GB kits. Running them on my Asus P8Z68-V Pro.

They're like one millimeter shorter than the bottom of my heatsink + fan, boy did I ever luck out, lol.

On the other hand, that Samsung RAM is really interesting. It's probably for the best I hadn't heard of it before I bought my Ripjaws, otherwise I'd be spending hours driving around town looking for someone with that stuff in stock...

Heatsinks on RAM are unnecessary for the most part. Buy JEDEC-spec 1.5v or 1.35v and you won't even need a heatsink.

I buy Crucial almost exclusively because they're a US-based company and they make their own memory. When I can't find Crucial RAM cheap enough then I'll buy G.Skill.

have to say Corsair. properly priced, always performing, and the best service assistance of all brands.

Even Crucial is now selling some substandard memory, so I now buy only Samsung, unless I find something local with name brand chips on it.
