Lol reading all responses made me laugh. It depends on the OE, operational environment. Lately its been ODA's from the Army, thats Operational Detachment Alpha which is ARMY SF. Oh and to add to that Army Combat Engineers usually go with SF, along with an operational support attachments.

P.S. I can support the abve statements since I do most of the planning for a few ODA's. Been in the ARMY for 6 years, 5 enlisted and 1 officer and still going.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Marines take their orders from the President...other branches need Congress' approval. What do you think?

Where did you dig that "fact" up?
Its pretty common knowledge, its been one of thier main directives for a while.

Today, it [USMC] has three primary areas of responsibility as outlined in 10 U.S.C. § 5063, originally introduced under the National Security Act of 1947:

-The seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land operations to support naval campaigns;
-The development of tactics, technique, and equipment used by amphibious landing forces; and
"Such other duties as the President may direct."

The charters of the other armed forces do not allow direct control via the president.

Its a capitalized word, deal with it.

no, but apparently savoyboy touched a nerve with YOU.

omgz marine must always be capitalized! you should go to miltary prison for having the audacity to use a lower case m!

Apparently I touched a nerve with you. You got your panties in a bunch and needed to post about it.

you made a post that contained nothing but your fixing of his m to an M.

I merely called you out on it.

Boy you sure 'called me out', I feel so bad. Never again will I attempt to inform someone of a grammar error that many people do not know about! Man, I feel like such a loser right now. How could I?

You are. Many people DO know it, but its not that big of a deal, even if they don't. You're as bad as the frat guys that flip out whenever they hear the word "frat" used.

I'm not sure if you're 13 or just annoying, but at any rate, I'm done arguing with you. Have a nice day, I hope you get that sand problem fixed soon.

Yeah I sure flipped out. I mean, I BOLDED (HOLY CRAP!!!) a common grammar mistake. I mean, I almost slammed my head through my monitor and cut my dick off, but I held myself back a tad.

As far as "Many people DO know it", I HIGHLY doubt it. Do you know how many Americans do not know our nation's capital? Something tells me a much smaller percentage of Americans know that Marine is a capitalized word. But hey, Im so batshit crazy and flipping out right now my brain may be cloudy and I could be wrong.

Yes the President has direct control over the marines, but also any other non-conventional force, ie. Army SF, Rangers, ...etc.

Likely Recon forces. A country like Iraq or Iran, the AF was likely deployed to recond possible targets.

In any ground conflict, the first ground-pounders are the special forces. They're always on alert and can be quickly transported anywhere in the world. An Air Force or Navy forward air controller always goes with them, too.

The second group to go in would be the Marines if by sea, or the Army if by land.

Incorrect. Consider that the US has carrier battle groups positioned around the world in constant rotation and that they contain an array of assets to include the carrier (with an air wing component of approximately 100 aircraft), at least two arleigh burke destroyers, at least 1 aegis class cruiser, and at least 1 fast attack sub (la class). Realize that this is some very serious firepower.

Heck, even something as simple as tsunami relief reflects the reality of the situation. First on station to assist - USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier strike group.

Keep in mind the Marine Corps also has its own mini air-force.

Yeah, it's called the Navy. Marines don't deploy with a Marine 'mini air-force'. They deploy with the organic assets of the carrier which includes Navy and Marine Corps aviators.

Interesting. Last I checked Congress is no where in any branch of service's chain of command.

Thats easy,

The Marine Corps

Wrong. As previously stated Air Force spec ops are the first in and tell everyone else where to go.

Again, the idea that the Air Force is the first to arrive reflects a complete misunderstanding of the US military complex.

It's almost as if you're line of thinking goes like this:
Marines, Army = ground units
Navy= boats
air force = planes
Well, planes are faster than ground units and boats, so it's planes!
