whatever you do, stay away from MSI. id almost rather try and make my own motherboard than buy an MSI...

also, check out the epox socket 939 board. the model # is in my sig.

Seems more people come asking for help have MSI. Could be just because there is probably more MSI boards all over the place.

Its really just luck of the draw when the boards work they are very good but it seems like many people have had problems with them. It really is just what luck you get with your board.

I have the Asus and I like it. Haven't used the MSI myself.

If you get a good MSI board, it'll be better than the Asus, but if you get a bad one, God help you.

Not all ASus boards are great, but no one has complained about leaking caps. I have half a dozen MSI boards at work with orange stuff leaking out of them. It is quite likely that Asus wiil be around in 2006 when you need that bios update.

asus for stability and ease of use

msi for performance and power (the neo2 is all I am referring to)

a good working neo2, is the best 939 solution out right now.

I read a review on AnandTech which compared 6 939 socket MB's. In summary they said:

"top four boards, we can honestly say that any of these 4 would be a great choice. The K8N Neo2 and Gigabyte K8NSNXP are both based on the nForce3 Ultra chipset, and the Abit AV8 and Asus A8V Deluxe Revision 2 are very clearly the top of the VIA boards, reaching our second best overclocks at 289 and 280. However, if you look carefully at the features, performance results, and just plain class in a market segment filled with top performers, the MSI K8N Neo2 stands out."

They have favoured nForce3 Ultra chips against Via K8T800 Pro's. I found interesting that many of you guys favoured the ASUS A8V-Deluxe over the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. Im planning on buying my first AMD, probabley an Athlon64 3200+ or 3500+. Based on this review i would buy either the MSI K8N or the Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 as both are nForce3 chips. Would that be a mistake?

You really have to do more research. Real world experience by users like you and me weigh more to me than 'reviews'. Reviews are there to give us a general picture, but it shouldn't be considered as the ultimate decision maker. What i do is I read the reviews/guides then do more research on different forums and see what sort of problems they are experiencing with the Mobo's.

There are NUMEROUS reasons why a lot of enthusiasts of this board are not recommending the gigabyte or the MSI boards. Use the search function, and see what people (comp builders) think of MSI and gigabyte. What you'll find out is that a majority of the MSI & GB boards are hit or misses and tend to be on the miss side. Also, go to the [HARD]forums or the overclockers forums. They have a healthy discussion of these boards. Good luck
