Which monitor is best ?

I currently use the Asus VG248QE, a very nice TN gaming monitor (144Hz refresh, 1 ms response,GTG) but with Doom played out I use it mostly for movies that will not play on the wifi/tv combo. So 24" is a little small.

I am looking for a 27" replacement and am considering the BenQ GW2760HS, a 60Hz, 4ms GTG VA monitor.

Unfortunately I cannot see them side by side to determine whether the Q is as good or better . The specs on the BenQ look good in comparison to the Asus though the Asus has a slightly brighter spec ( 350 cd/㎡/300). The factor in the Q's favour is the VA panel, at least in theory.

Could I get some advice on purchasing the Q or another choice ? Cost up to $100 more doesn't matter. Thx,

I bought the Asus PB 278Q--not a bad unit: expensive and only 60 Hz refresh but very high quality build, large screen size and brilliant colour display.

Well another interesting thing is that there is no tearing in the display that might occur with vertical sync off. I have played several Doom levels with adaptive sync on--which limits fps to 60, and others with it off-where fps are at 65-85 but the game play is identical either way and I do not see tearing or other artifact of the refresh rate being slower than the frame rate.

What have I here ? I guess that tearing only occurs at a higher variance between refresh and Hz. I've seen posts that warn of tearing when the fps is approximately double the refresh rate which is not the case here. So I can leave it off on this monitor and play at higher fps than the Hz so long as the fps stay below 120. Getting that level fps on a 2660 x 1440 display is not gonna happen any time soon with my GTX 970.

But I plan to install the GTX 1070 at some point and will have to revisit the issue. The solution will have to be a higher Hz screen and I like the PG 279 Q which maybe will be affordable by then ( I like the IPS panel).

I said
"Getting that level fps on a 2660 x 1440 display is not gonna happen any time soon with my GTX 970."

Wrong

I originally played Doom, like I said above, on this new PB 278Q /60 Hz monitor, at 2560 x 1440. With Vsync on the display was limited to 60 fps. With v sync off I had fps way above the so called refresh rate, at 65-85 fps, but with no perceived problems with out-of -sync artifacts. I thought then that I had to get to double the refresh rate on this monitor to see tearing, per online reports.I do not use display port so there is no G Sync happening.

Well, to check that out, I dropped the res to 1920 x 1080. Now remember this is a 60 Hz monitor and I/m now running Doom at 1920 , everything high or ultra. That gave me fps at 90-125 and still no tearing or problem whatsoever.
