I am still trying to decide between PIV 1.8 Ghz and Athlon XP 1800+ but which of these MB's for each processor is best...

For the Athlon I have these choices only:

Azza Via KT266A 266Mhz FSB UDMA-100 DDR

Gigabyte 7VTX-E Via KT266A Chipset 266Mhz FSB UDMA-100 DDR

Soyo K7V-Dragon Plus Via KT266A Chip w/ RAID, LAN, UDMA-100

MSI K7N420 Pro NForce 420D Chipset w/LAN 266Mhz FSB UDMA-100

and for the Pentium I have these choices only:

Pentium 4 UDMA-100 DDR

Azza PT-P4X2-AV Pentium 4 Via P4X266 Chip UDMA-100 DDR

AOPEN AX45 Pentium 4 SIS 645 Chip UDMA-100 DDR Main Board

of the ones you listed i would take the soyo dragon+ for an athlonXP

but all of your athlon choices are based on the older kt266a chipset? why not go with the newer/slightly faster kt333?

my first choice would be the epox 8k3a

Yeah I'm buying from ibuypower.com and those are the only choices. Now it says the Soyo comes with RAID and all that jazz but I won't have to do anything special will I? It will still be just installing all my progs and running like normal right? It would be my first experience with AMD. I don't have to do anything with RAID do I? It's just a feature that's there if you want it right?

no you dont have to do anything special with the raid

it will just come with 2 extra ide ports (instead of the standard 2 ports, it will have 4) the extra two ide ports can be totally ignored if you want, or you can use them to run just plain ide harddrives (not in raid), or you can use them to run a raid.

as far as setting up the board its very easy
1 physically put it together
2 install windows
3 install motherboard drivers
A. via 4in1
B. usb patch
4. install the rest of the drivers (by the way all the drivers will be on a disc with the board, or you can download the newest ones)
5 install all the other crap like windows updates, directx, etc etc

good to go

I don't trust Azza for a bunch of reasons, so I'd throw those out.
For the people that want the options, the Soyo board is nice, but the Gigabyte is cheaper.

The Aopen board for the p4 is using a good chipset, and Aopen is making decent boards now, but they are overpriced, imo.
