I'm thinking most people are going to answer you according to their personal take on the matter, since they're both rather good boards as far as I've been able to ascertain.

If you're into overclocking, I am under the impression that the DFI motherboard would be superior; otherwise, just look at the specs, look at the prices and decide which one would work better for you.

For my dollar, and years of building experiense, if it dosn't say Asus on the motherboard, it doesn't get my company name on the front of the case

Because it doesn't have firewire, and I want one to be included with the board so I don't have to buy a PCI card.

Actually, I can just use my old PCI firewire card. Should I go with the A8n-e instead? I'd love to save $20...

It's just that the neo4 platinum has more features (7.1 audio, more storage devices, firewire, etc...). What exactly is SATA2 anyway, and is it necessary to have it?

SATAII theoredically doubles the bandwitdh of current SATA drives, raising the maximum from 150 mbpss to 300 mbps. It's not very useful now, but it might come in handy now when drives can actually utilize that extra bandwidth. The Neo-4 Platinum is great because of it's features, but the DFI is a bit better for overclocking. Personally, I like the MSI board better. I'm going to say this for the last time now: DON'T DOUBLE POST PLEASE!
