uh, dark knight was a good movie, no doubt... but Gran Torino blew it away.

Where is the option for "none of the above"??
Seriously (heh), I thought both were meh... I turned off Dark Night after about 30 minutes as it was boring and utterly predictable.

However, is Gran Torino considered a 2008 film or 2009 film?

I would certainly pick Eastwood for lifetime achievement though (assuming he hasn't already received it).

Why is Dark Knight even on the poll? So much failure compared to its competition. Ledger was really good, and I can see how he should be competitive for his category, but the rest of the flick was mediocre at best. For an action movie, it was great, though. Nothing genre busting or thought-provoking, unless it normally takes you a few hours to get the brain cells chugging along.
Anyway, I haven't seen Slumdog yet, so I'm currently going with The Wrestler. Easy win for Rourke, at least. Would also like to see Revolutionary Road and The Reader, though.
I liked Gran Torino a lot, but I think there is some stronger work out there.

I think he has, iirc. Right next to his cabinet-full of Oscars.

it's probably propping up the wobbly leg of his Oscar trophy case

I would be careful of Revolutionary Road. It's one of those films that feels like homework. Basically you know you're watching a really good film and that you shoud like but really it's pretty boring and youre just waiting for the film to end.
Haven't checked out The Reader yet

I hear it's probably the worst movie to see as a couple. Looks like it. So I'm kind of 50/50 on it; but I tend to love these type of character-driven, subtext-heavy pieces anyway. I could watch TWBB 2x daily.
DiCaprio and Winslet are fantastic, of course, so I'm assuming it's worth it just to see them. It will likely be a netfilx for me.

I can't believe how much people are cheering for the Dark Knight. It had no emotional depth and was way too long. The acting was really choppy (other than Ledger's) and the story was pretty bland. This is what happens when you tried to straddle the fence between oscar contender and summer blockbuster. Honestly I enjoyed Iron Man way more than Dark Knight.

Slumdog.
I didn't see Dark Knight in the theatre, so my experience probably wasn't as immersive.
