Which new PDA to get?

I already have a Palm IIIc. I'd like something that has better color and a higher resolution screen. I was about to get one of the new Sony CLIEs (610c or 710c). I was planning to get one, but I want to get a few opinions from you guys first. The HP Jornada series of Pocket PCs are tempting to me as well. IPAQs? Casiopeias?

What I Need:

-address book
-to do list
-memo feature
-high resolution screen for viewing pictures
-calculator and conversion utility
-large collection of software

My Palm IIIc does all that already, except the resolution (180x180) is not as great as what I would like..

What I Want:

-video and audio playback
-expandable/removeable memory (for the above)
-advanced word processor

Would a PocketPC be better for me or should I stick with getting the new CLIE?

Iam in the same situation as you... I am just about to give in and buy Compaq IPAQ color. I use my PDA at work but I find that PalmOS lacks many simple features found in WinCE. Just my thoughts on it... I had a WinCE PDA before, I went PalmOS for a while but I think I'm going back.

Definitly go for an iPAQ. They are much nicer, and they are the fasting selling PDA's right now (that's gotta mean something).

I used to have a Palm 3 that I loved...

It stopped working...

I got a Journada 548...

I wish I had never wasted my money on the Palm...

Seriously, I would say the ipaq is nice, but for the difference in cost, the Journada is a great alternative, plus it is smaller. I love mine

another vote for the ipaq. aside from a few production problems they are the best (pocketpc) pdas available imho. if viewing pictures is very important for you than the casios might be better since they offer a 16 bit color screen vs 12 bit on the ipaq. also the ipaq has some problems playing games since you cannot press two buttons at the same time. haveing said all that i still think the ipaq is the best pocketpc out there, and has the fastest processor.

Since you already have a palm, I would go for a PocketPC. Jornada are probably the cheapest, but not the best screens. iPaqs are the fastest I believe, but most expensive. The Casios have the best screens and are fairly fast. PocketPC is probably more bang for the buck since they have more complex programs, better screens, more memory, and are much, much faster. I would probably go with one of the newer casio models.

I saw a guy using AIM on a iPAQ. That was cool.

Size is also an important factor for me because I carry it around everywhere.

another thing about the ipaq. there is currently a production problem with them, where if you keep it in you pocket it tends to get dust behind the screen. thus making it annoying to look at.

also, I am kinda swayed to the journada because i got it for only $250

Problem w/ pocket PC's over the palms is the batter life.

hey, you gotta pay for all that fancy color and nice processor somewhere.

seriously, if your just using ur pda as a pda then stick w/ the Palm OS. there's one out right now, MaximumPC has an article on it. it has much larger resolution and it made the graffiti part software so that it could drop down outta sight and give you more screen area. nice alternative. PM Me and i'll let you know tonite when i have access my copy of Maximum PC if your interested.

but what i'd do, instead of spending another 400 or 500 dollars on a new Pocket PC is get a palmtop PC, like the small sony viao, very nice alternative to the Pocket PC, keep ur IIIc (that's what i got btw) and save up for a nice palm top PC.

get an ipaq the palm os is to simple to do all u want. the palm os shines for practical applications like organizing your life, but not for video playback. the processor in the palm units is also too slow! (i have both an ipaq and a palm vx and prefer the palm for what i need to do)

duo

exactly, the palm's and the Ipaq don't quite do what the Palmtop like a sony vaio can do.

y go cheap and buy the ipaq when you already own a perfectly good palm. wouldnt it be better investing in something that will really do video playback?
