Have upgraded to Windows 10, the services of Microsoft Edge have been quite pleasant. But I need to know is it the right time to say goodbye to Chrome?

Do you use any extensions or add ons? If so then Chrome.
Do you like you're bookmarks and stuff to sync across lots of devices? If so then Chrome.
Do you want the best compatability across websites? If so then Chrome.
Do you want to draw on a web page? If so then Edge.

I'd rather use Firefox than either but I'd rather use IE over Edge.

I would say MICROSOFT EDGE. Chrome spies on the end user like crazy (Not saying that Edge doesnt... WE ALL KNOW 10 DOES!!)

Good luck and welcome to Anandtech!!

Really? All browsers spy on you. Just connecting to the net you are spied on. Sheesh.

Chrome.

Out of OP's choices Chrome is worlds better.

I also prefer Firefox over either one of them for most things.

A web browser is a personal preference just like any other piece of software. If you are satisfied with what you have then keep it. I personally have IE 11, edge, FF 42, safari, chrome and opera installed and I use them when I want to. My favorite is IE followed by FF. I use chrome exclusively when browsing last fm and safari to manage my netgear router. I use edge when I want to scribble on a website like draw faces on pictures like a little kid because it's worthless for much more than that to me. I've browsed amazon with it and made notes to myself about the items I was looking at.

When did this forum turn into tinfoilhats.com? Seriously :/

Just browsing the web you are "spied on" by every single website you go to. Privacy on the internet is not and will never be a thing any more than it is when you walk down a public street.

Either browser is totally fine for web browsing, but if you're a heavy addon user Edge will leave you wanting.

Depends on what people mean by privacy. There's "walking down the street" and then there's "walking down the street with your name, address, and phone number printed on the back of your T-shirt along with a list of every shop you've visited during the past 6 months."

Your name, address, and phone number are all publicly available information in the first place. As for the rest, like everywhere you shop isn't selling all that information to third parties anyway? And if you have a credit card, forget it. I don't remember the last time I bought something and they didn't ask me for my phone number or my zip code or some other inane piece of personal demographic information that has nothing to do with them selling me a shirt. No internet browser required.

It's just a fact of modern society, our information is a valuable product in and of itself. If you *truly* care that much if they know who's underwear you're buying, the only solution is to go live in the mountains and sew your own. What web browser you choose or operating system you run is irrelevant, your information is out there.

If you have to ask, Edge.

I always love the all knowing, all seeing, there are such things as a stupid question replies. Get a life.
As to the OP; I've been using Chrome w/o issues for some time now. But, it's true - any browser you use stores cookies to every site you visit. The key for me has been making sure the default search engine is Google. It seems to give me results that are relevant to what I'm searching for as opposed to SALES results such as Bing or others give.
My wife recently bought, from Amazon, some baby stuff 'cuz the grand kids were going to visit. Now, all I get is emails from Amazon about baby stuff. So, I've got to clear my cookies or buy something from Amazon that I'm interested in. Or, even look at some stuff like that; put it in my cart, show an interest. Yes, they've got your number(s).....all the time.

Would you post that info in your next post?

No? Thats because there's a difference between sharing everything with anyone and sharing stuff you need to with people you select.
At least with a browser with add ons you get a little control over that.

I looked at a thread on FW, and apparently it had something to do with babies, so then afterwards, I was getting baby things interspersed with electronics when looking at walmart, and Skype ads from Target about baby items.

My zip code, they're welcome to, I share that with tens of thousands of other people and it just tells them where a store's customers are coming from and what their (very) general demographic info is (at least in NYC, where pretty wide socio-economic ranges of people live in most zip codes.) If they don't already have it for a specific reason I decided was worth giving it to them for and they ask for my phone number and/or email address, I smile and politely "just say no."

Definitely Chrome. It has the best design for you to manage bookmarks, extensions, history and other tools.

Chrome is more mature and has extensions, so it would be the obvious choice.

The best way to discover which to use, is this:

- spend 1 or 2 weeks by using one of them
- spend another 1 or 2 weeks by using the other

You will find out then which is the best for you!

Vivaldi because it uses the Chromium engine, takes all the extensions that don't require Google accounts, is less pervasive. Lawlietfox is my overall favorite because it feels as fast but has even better extensions (though not for long as stuff like DownThemAll will be invalid after the extension neutering happens next year). Edge isn't even worth talking about.

Firefox has the best selection of addons/extensions, but you pay the price in speed/clunkiness of the browser as you start to add a lot of those addons. If control over what's happening and your privacy/security is a top priority, then Firefox has to be one of your top considerations for a browser. In this regard, Chrome was always lacking in comparison. But it has definitely improved a lot, and the Adblock extensions that are available in Chrome no longer seem to provide such a subpar experience as they used to.

If the question is Edge or Chrome, I would say Chrome. But when it comes to browsers and web standards, we still have not reached a point where you can use a single browser that will deliver the best experience to all sites. So I have Firefox, Chrome and Edge. Any "new" browsing I do tends to happen in Firefox, certain sites that I've found to either render, perform or otherwise just work way better in Chrome, I use in Chrome. And so far I use Edge for Netflix. For some reason, I can't seem to get Firefox or Chrome to play at the same quality in Netflix, judging on the bitrate delivered.

You can always run a browser inside a virtual machine for an extra layer of comfort, but that's not always convenient.

In the end, just test drive the various browsers to see what gives the experience you're looking for. The biggest deal when it comes to extensions/addons is Adblock, IMO - but you can of course take it a lot farther than that.

I thought this was a joke thread. I guess not. Chrome is by far the best browser followed by Firefox and its derivatives, then the rest of the ugly customers. Even IE 11 for now is better than Edge. I suspect edge will be good in a few years. When its out of alpha...lol

Have not used Chrome for ages
On my friends windows 7 it is as slow as hell and keeps brining up all sorts of ads etc.
On 10 Edge is fast and we in our household and daughters household are very pleased with it.
