I think the Leadtek got the best reviews in Anand's Ti4200 roundup. The Asus looks good too with a default memory speed of 550 Mhz.

That Gainward is looking SWEET!

Anyone have these cards? Post your experience with them.

My Albatron ti4200 (non-turbo) is great. I can get 300/600 when the case is very cool. To be safe I'm running at 290/570...

I am in the same situation.

I am looking at:
MSI Ti4200-VTD8X
Albatron Ti4280PV
Asus V9280 TD
WinFast A280LE TD
Chaintech A-GX20

All are 128mb, 8x AGP, and have VGA, S-Video, and DVI

Any thoughts?

I ordered the Asus from googlegear... I'll let you know how it works out... many people seem to be hitting at least 300/650 which is Ti4600 speeds... some are even getting 325/680, but that seems to be rare.

i agree. that gainward is looking sweet. i would go with that one. i put a gainward geforce 3 in my g/f's pc and it is running like a champ. i also have the albatron running with a zalman heatsink in my main system. the case is so quiet now.

This Asus V8420S GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB with 3.3ns RAM rocks. I've got it running right now at 325/650!! That's WITHOUT heatsinks on the RAM... and with a pretty dinky heatsink on the GPU. Check my profile for latest benchies =)

If you're wondering, at stock speeds, 250/444, it scored 10,900... most 4200's seem to be shipping at 250/500, so I tested there too... 11,500

In my opinion, the Asus has the lead because of it's 3.3ns RAM... now if you could find a Ti4200 with 2.8ns RAM, that would be killer. That's what the Ti4600's use, and you could probably hit 700 Mhz no problem.

Based upon multiple reviews and 3.3ns mem I purchased the asus ti4200 9280td (8x 128) card. Shipped for $136, should get here by Thursday.

This company is in good standing with Better Business Bureau and cheap shipping.

Check it out

I'm able to get the GPU up to 335... been playing with it =) It's not very hot either... I looped 3DMark for 10 minutes, then checked temps... I used a temperature probe and checked the ambient case temp, 24 C just like Asus Probe Reports... so I know my temp probe is reading the same thing my system is.

I first put it on the RAM... at 655 Mhz it was 32 C
Then I put it on the PCB right behind the GPU... at 335 Mhz it was 38 C
Then I put it on the GPU's heatsink... and it said 32 C

Then since I had it open already I put it on the base of the CPU's heatsink, and it said 33 C... of course, I was measuring at the outermost part of the heatsink, far away from the core... so I don't doubt the core itself gets up 46 C under load, which is what Asus Probe was reporting at the time.

Does anybody know the difference between the asus ti4200's 9280S and 9280TD??

I believe the memory runs at 3.3 in both. (At least hoping becuase I just bought the TD)

I don't think the TD has 3.3ns RAM... I think it's 3.6 which would give you a default memory speed around 500 Mhz, rather than the 550 of the S

V9280TD
V9280S

Here is the breakdown

V9280S/TVD (SuperFast) : GeForce4 Ti 4200-8X, AGP 8X, 128MB DDR, TV-out, Video-in, DVI, 2nd VGA. using an 8-layer Ti 4600 PCB a 275MHz core speed, and a 600MHz memory. Samsung 3.3ns BGA RAM chips

V9280 VS (Video Suite) : GeForce4 Ti 4200-8X, AGP 8X (Fan Speed Control), 128MB DDR, TV-out, Video-in, Dual DVI, 2nd VGA.

V9280 TD : GeForce4 Ti 4200-8X, AGP 8X, 64MB/128MB DDR, TV-out, DVI, 2nd VGA

The 9280TD and VS are running at 3.6ns RAM chips.

The retail for these things have pretty staggering differences

9280S retail: $215
9280TS Retail: $130
9280VS retail: $150

That's because basically the V9280S is a detuned Ti4600 with slightly slower RAM.

I think asus is the way to go!

My issue,
9280s gets me to 3.3ns mem and 8x agp (which has little value currently but soon will be a factor) at $215.
9280td has 3.6ns mem and support 8x agp at $140
8420s doesn't support 8x agp but has the 3.3 memory. $140

I would like to get an 8x card b\c my mobo supports it and games will use it in the future (possibly) and I would like to have the 3.3 ns memory but the $215 pricetag is a little much.

I am thinking of going for the 8420s at 4x b\c the games that will use the 8x will probably be dirx9 and the card doesn't support it regardless, so I would need to end up getting a new card anyway.

The question isn't whether games will use the 8X AGP... GeForce4 video cards will never need an 8X AGP bus... they just don't need that much bandwidth. Definately go with the V8420S... I have it, I'm extremely satisfied with it, I'm recommending it to anyone in the market for a GeForce4 period. It has DVI and TV Out also.
