I just cant decide between the two! The Asus has 20000:1 (ASCR) but I heard it's an overbloated number. The Planar seems to show a more honest spec: 1200:1 vs the 1000:1 for Asus

Both monitors have a VESA mount, which is an absolute must for me. The planar is much bigger, which is nice, but if the Asus is better overall, I will off course go for that.

Please help.

I'd love to, sadly such monitors are nowhere near affordable at this point in time.

Dude, get the ASUS one. Because it has 76hz @ 1920x1200

The Planar is a mere 1 inch and half larger but gives res of 1920x1080@60hz yuck!!!,

This monitor is a FPS gamers dream because of the refresh rate.

16:10 is the shiznat. 16:9 for computer monitors sucks. Personal opinion.

Planar sucks. Personal opinion.

Thanks. I ordered the ASUS. I already have the Asus VH226H and I am very happy with it especially given the price I bought it for about a year ago. The reason I couldn't decide was that the Planar was only $47 more but 27" and I thought that maybe this brand might have higher quality or something... I really don't know anything about Planars.

I spent two days digging out information on both monitors, and found tons of positive reviews for this particular Asus model. The percent breakdown is something like 70% positive reviews and 30% negative with a large part of those negative reviews being due to improper use or unrealistic demands.

Sadly I couldn't find much info on the Planar. The only thing I found is that some folks frown upon running games on monitors larger than 24-25 inches because of the increased pixel size and jagged edges as a result. Luckily one of the reviews specifically states that this problem is not there with the Asus or at least not very noticeable to an average user. All this info, the price ($225 after promo code + rebate), plus the fact that a 27" monitor would be just too damn large to have sitting only a meter away from me sealed my decision.

I would have loved to get a 16:10 monitor, but I didn't see a single one on newegg that would be in the same price range, and would have the same quality, and especially, size. At such a large size the 16:9 should be less on an issue. Besides my res is not 1920x1080 it's 1920x1200. I actually didn't notice that right away. Thanks tweakboy!

OP, glad you posted this as I am considering exactly the same monitors. The Asus (with rebate is currently $225 after rebate while I found that Dell has discounted the Planar to $249 + tax.

I'd love to have a 27" display but I can find few-if-any reviews of the Planar vice many for the Asus.
