Which one of those should I pick? 550w-650w range

Hello,

I am starting to plan my next built, a mini-ITX enthusiast PC for productivity and casual gaming. It will have a 200$ Intel Haswell processor, 200$ GPU, no OC. I figure a PSU in the 550-650w range will be ideal.

Quietness is a main driver, but I am also sensitive to price. Since the Corsair RM650 is on sale this week at my favorite computer store, I am in a rush to find out if it's a good pick. I read that coil noise is not an issue on those (vs. Seasonic), so I feel it would work great for me: fanless at low power and not expensive. However, it's hard to pass up on Seasonic after reading lots of great comments about their PSUs.

Here are the contenders:

- Corsair RM650
- Seasonic X-650
- Seasonic G-650 (no fanless, but smarter buy?)
- CoolerMaster V550 Semi-modular (I read that it was extremely silent)
- Seasonic S12G-650 (why not since it seems to be loved on Newegg and Anandtech)
- Corsair HX650 (seems to have a better fan than the RM...)

Lastly, modular or semi-modular makes no difference to me. A $10 difference on the price makes no difference to me. Getting 650 w vs. 550 w makes no difference. Looks make no difference. Corsair Link is unimportant.

Thank you already for your advice.

450W will be plenty. If only Seasonic had a fully modular psu at that wattage that wasn't fanless. I'd probably look at Rosewill Capstone 450W instead.

Thank you for all your feedback. I'll do some more review reading and make up my mind. The vote of confidence towards Seasonic helps to focus my research.

I can't believe how much time and effort I am spending on a power supply. And the more I look into it, the more difficult the decision becomes. The moment I feel that I narrowed it down, more options present themselves. The only sure thing is that I want a power supply around 650w and Modular.

Right now my shortlist is Antec EDG650, Rosewill Capstone, EVGA SuperNOVA, SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze, and the XFX XTR... Not the shortest shortlist.

If I had to say what factor is most important to me, I would say I want something really quiet. Silent even. Thanks in advance for any advice

IIRC, the G650 (SSR-650RM) is quieter than the S12G-650, but don't quote me on that
