which one should i get?

i did some searching and realized 802.11g only helps for LAN since internet is bottlenecked by the speed of ISP. however, when price difference is quite small it makes you kinda wonder...

802.11b
802.11g

are these decent bundles at that price? i was just about to hit the order button but it never hurts to double check

802.11g probably stands for 802.11 Good.

802.11b probably Stands for 802.11 Best.

So I can get the Best and save $10.

Approach Two.

I would read the content of this page, and learn what the differences between 802.11b to 802.11g are In term of Bandwidth, Stability, Distance, and security measures (802.11b is older than 802.11g).

Since other people do not know what I do with my computer and what is my financial Status.

I would then evaluate what is better for my needs, and would adjusted to how important is $10 to my financial status.

well thx but i read that article already (thats how i know it 802.11g doesnt help internet go faster )
what i was asking is if $10 is worth it in terms of being more "futureproof". i dont really do a whole lot of file file copying on the lan but i might once i get my laptop up and running

If you followed some of my posting around here you should know that I am the last one to advocate spending money on unnecessary Hardware.

I do not want to make finance Judgment of individuals unknown to me. However a lot of people around here will not think twice on spending $10 on useless Colorful Case LEDs.

Since the difference is only $10 the analysis can be more focus.

802.11b would provide you with 5-6Mb/sec. functional Bandwidth. 802.11g should be close to 20Mb/sec.

5mb/sec. provides very little margin, loses to WEP/WPA, low level Noise, minor obstructions, and your Bandwidth becomes marginal.

20Mb/sec. Leaves bigger margin for nuisances.

Besides transferring files, simple Audio Video Streaming is much more feasible with 802.11g.

However it is your $10.

the b is much slower, (11Mbps) than the G (54mbps). For $10 I would get the G it is the new standard.

Definitely wireless G. B is obsolete. If you have never had wireless before and have a 2.4 Ghz phone, they might conflict.

Go with the G. Most notebooks, desktops are shipping w/g technology. Also...see the good advice from JackMDS.
