Do you know of any comparison of the two versions of the Zalman heatsink/fan combos: CHPS7000-Cu (alll Cooper) versus its sibling CHPS7000-AlCu (Alum + Cooper)

I'd go with the Cu, only because copper conducts heat better than aluminum.

Deskstar,
I just purchased the Al-Cu version but have not installed it yet so I can't comment on its
performance, but I can say the all copper version is over the reccomended weight limit
for some mobo/cpu combinations, if that is an issue for you.

BTW, I just lapped mine and the copper is beautiful but the aluminum sections look stained
but everyone assures me that it is not an issue.

If you get the chance I would love to hear about your before and after temps if you decide to
get one of these units. Good luck.

I will post both once I make my decision. And as far as the weigh limit set by the mobo manufacturer...hehe, if I had to obey that weight limit, then I would not be overclocking my processor, which is also against the policy of the manufacturer. As long as my computer does not fall through the floor because of the extra weight, then it should be OK.

I found a review of both versions at silentpcreview.com that answers the question.

Ya, the reviews I read had both at the same performance, but the Al-Cu is cheaper and lighter. Don't bother with the all Cu.

i think the Al-Cu performs better because of the fan. I believe I read somewhere that the Cu has a quieter fan.

Both of them are just as good.

But the AlCU is NOT better than the Cu version. It is lighter but NOT better.
The Cu version can cool your cpu better by around 3c than the AlCu.

Its fan also doesnt spin faster than the Cu version.
Both have the same fan that spins around 2700rpm if plugged straight to the mobo fan header.
If you use the fanmate1 it will spind around 2400rpm.

Both run just as quiet.
The difference is the copper are much heavier and cools a little bit better.

All of your posts are very helpful. I will go with the Al-Cu version because I do not need the "heavy-weight" cooling that the Cu-only version provides. The copper only version does cool slightly better; but for my uses, the trade off between weight, cost, and cooling ability do not merit the all copper version. Computing is a compromise after all. I do want as quiet a fan as possible and just enough cooling with that quiet fan that will allow moderate overclocking. The Al-Cu fits my needs perfectly and minimal risk of mobo damage due to weight. Thank you all.

I just switched out my stock Intel heatsink for the Zalman Al-Cu and wow what a difference. No noise and my CPU temps are 5 C cooler. Now to silence my video card fan.
