Which Overclock Should I Use For E6600?

I can can do either one of the two:

3.40ghz with 1.4750vCore
Asus probe temps: Idle = 36 Load = 42
Coretemp temps: Idle = 52/51 Load = 62/62

OR

3.50ghz with 1.5375vCore
Asus probe temps: Idle = 40 Load = 46
Coretemp temps: Idle = 56/55 Load = 67/67

Unfortuantly 3.60ghz isn't even possible with 1.60vCore and that was just for testing anyway. Too Bad.

This is a retail, Week 28 processor. I do want to get at least 3.4ghz out of this chip becuase this is the second E6600 i've had and want to get a difference over my other one that maxed at 3.20ghz to 3.25ghz. Let me know if you think these voltages are going to kill this chip or if it will be ok with these temps.

Run some programs you usually use and see if there are any significant performance improvement going from 3.4 to 3.5. I'm really conservative w/ my OC, I never set the vcore over 1.35.

The voltage (1.5375V) is toward the high side but not out of the question for 24/7. However, the temps (67C under load) is TOO high. You should not run over about 61C (according to the spec).

I recommend not using a voltage above 1.5V or a temp above 61C. You'll have to figure out what frequency will work within those constraints.

My E6600 runs 24/7 at 3.6GHz and at 1.5V with a max loaded temp of 57C.

One thing that I feel strongly about is that the reported temps for all Allendale/Conroe processors are too high. What I'm saying is they are reported to be higher than they really are. I don't know if this is a symptom of the new Digital Temperature Sensors (DTS) or what but my E6600 is absolutely cool to the touch even when Core Temp is reporting 57C under load. I do not believe these readings. I think they are about 12C-15C too high. But there are a bunch of temperature threads you can refer to. You'll have to make your own decision since, in the end, it is your processor and components.

I'd use the 3.4. I think 52 idle is too high though. Assuming you'll get the same increase starting with a lower idle temp (about 10C idle to load), you need to figure out how to drop the idle temp. I would guess your case is too hot. If you can get idle to sub-50C, you should be sub-60C on load.

well all intel boards have vdroop. u set vcore 1.5v in bios, and in windows through speedfan ur only getting 1.50v 1.49v idle and 1.47v 1.46 v during full load ... i had P5W DH and DS3, they were bad! difference between idle and load is like 0.04v!!

D975XBX was pretty good, setting 1.6v vcore in windows = 1.56v actual (accoring to fcg in xs) and but vdroop is very little in badaxe, its like 0.012v drop between idle and load, but badaxe requires ink mod to even overclock and it can't go above 450fsb without vmod

but i dont think vdroop is a big issue, however jsut know that what u set in bios is always lower than the actual, how much?? depends on board

I'm using a Asus P5W DH board with bios 1401. Also, I think that the max temperature of 61 corresponds with PC probe temps and not core temp. Coretemp is a different type of reading and I've seen it go above 75 and still be stable, however as soon as PC probe goes above 61, the chip locks up. Just my two sense. Anyone?

Is there any way to improve cooling? Your idle temps seem high compared to the decent load temps with the OC. If you can lower the temps like even 2~3C, running 3.5GHz looks to be OK.

I'd go with the lower vcore option unless you plan on killing the CPU quickly
